Kelly Teage from OK sent me an email this am. They were opening an Air Race and raced the "Hooters Scooter," formally "DaScrew-Driver," against an RAF.

Notice Kelly's technique as he crosses the finish line first.

VW Beats Subaru!

Yes, but it would be more interesting to me if the regular Joe types like me would be able to race as well. Watching the instructors go round and round would be fun, but just think how much fun us guys could have!

Hey Tom, can you send me a list of the participants? I'd like to buy a term-policy on each one. Are you serious about this? Yikes!

I only got 75 out of it when it was mine. No telling what Kelly has done, or what it does now.

Pylon racing would be alot of fun. Let's schedule it for ROC this year Ron.

It's true Ken. We did a pylon race at a regional fly-in last year and it was a rousing success.

Sanely, the gyros are only permitted to fly around the pylons one-at-a-time.

Ron, The convention chairman limited the race to CFIs this year. Rick Marshall is very conservative and didn't want to try something new like this as a free-for-all.

Rick told me today that he is afraid the FAA might consider a pylon as a structure and that we would have to keep 500 feet away without a waiver. They are trying to run the convention without an FAA waiver this year.

Good. I was imagining a gaggle of gyros trying to position themselves to be first around the pylon in rotor-to-rotor racing.

Tom: I would love to enter that plyon race at Mentone should they let others compete. That was fun at Shelbyville to participate in and it was very interesting to watch.

I can't wait.

I think it is a good idea to have the first one with just instructors.

If (and I hope it is) opened up to the general pilot public next year, I wonder what could be done to make sure pilots are qualified enough to make sure there is a very very low risk of having an accident.

I don't have a machine that would be competitive but I would love to enter. Maybe if there are enough competitors there could be a '447-class'. Mine would still be the slowest 447 but at least I would not be ending 10 min. behind second to last place:).

I don't think of my 2 place as a racer either, I have a condition where the windshield bends down on me when I go over 80mph. :(

Maybe I can drop a turbine in a gyrobee by next year  :D
