I'm not a pilot but have been lucky enough to fly in Mi-24 Hind, Mi-2, Mi-17, Lynx HAS3, Gliders, GA
A recent published report relates to a runaway Brako gyro.

The owner wanted to start the engine to see how it ran - no intention of flight.

Upon starting the engine ( the pilot was outside the machine ) it went to full power.

It travelled approx 50m before hitting two parked cars and a hanger.

The owner received minor injuries as he tried to stop it.

The report says no chocks or any other restraining device was used.

Take Care

Sounds like it ran orrite.

A man was killed at our local EAA chapter in just this way.

It has happened too very often when someone with no experience has bought a gyro and "just wanted to hear it run". These are not automobiles, where you can reach in and start it and it won't go anywhere until you put the transmission in drive. They don't have a park, drive setting, once the prop gets moving, the aircraft will move. It's such a shame that people do this without trying to learn something about their new purchase before they decide to start it. This guy is very lucky he didn't get hit by the prop or it would have been much worse.

Looks like it will be ready for the next unsuspecting newcomer.....
