No one will ever become wealthy writing books about gyroplanes; such books are mostly a labor of love.

Edgardo Maffia of Argentina has written just such a book in Spanish and it came as a surprise to learn the first printing, 500 copies, had sold out in 3 weeks. His book; “La Biblia de los Autogiros” is now being sold in Spain.

Edgardo has done an excellent job; his book is well illustrated and the facts are straight.

Afraid not, Mark. As I mentioned earlier, autogyro books have a very limited sales potential and are mostly a labor of love.

Here is a photo from Edgaro’s book of what appears to be a pristine Cierva C-30 in a Buenos Aires aviation museum.

Chuck, are there specific English publications you would recommend?

I have found some excellent GYRO publications and websites;

1) Rotorcraft Flying Handbook FAA-H-8083-21
BY: U.S. Dept. of Transportation and FAA
SUPPLIED BY: Jeppesen

2) Understanding the Gyroplane
BY: Paul Bergen Abbott

3) https://www.ultraflightradio.com/index.html

4) https://www.aircraftdesigns.com/gyroplanes.html

5) MODERN GYROPLANE DESIGN 3rd Edition, by Martin Hollmann and Dr. Eric M. Hollmann

Jim, the classic book of rotary wing is: “Aerodynamics of the Helicopter” by Gessow and Meyers, first published nearly 50 years ago.

Still in print, it is available here:

https://www.cgpp.com/heliaero.html

Aerodynamics of the Helicopter is a technical book but not so technical that it’s overwhelming.

Much of the material comes from the authors’ work with Autogiros at the NACA.

Dear C. Beaty:

The picture published by the friend Edgardo, belongs to the The Cierva C-30 LV - FBL, brought by my Father to the Argentina in the decade of the 30.

Can see the complete history of the same one in: https://www.cdeea.com/autogiros / and their tragic one final, at the hands of those who had to take care of it.

At the end of it paginates it: https://www.cdeea.com/autogiros/deportivosactuales.htm, will be able to see a reference to the excellent work made by you in the topic of the envelope it pushes and the horizontal stabilizer.

An affectionate greeting to you and the components of the forum

Thanks, Ramon. The story of the Argentine C-30 IV-FBI would make an interesting article for the PRA magazine.

If you care to write an article along with some pictures, I’ll have your manuscript translated into English and see that it gets published.

Edgardo has my E-mail and postal addresses.

Dear C. Beaty:

Thank you for their offer

I am preparing a summary on the history of the LV FBL, and my Father, in when has it finished, I send it to their particular E-mail

I reiterate my gratefulness

An affectionate greeting to you and the components of the forum

More books

This may be old news, but I have just bought 2 recently published books that have a few interesting pages on Gyroplanes these are :

The Aviation Fact file - Helicopters Military,Civilian and rescue rotorcraft by Robert Jackson (Cierva, Wallis, Bensen good pictures and some graphics)

Airlife's Helicopters and Rotorcraft by Rod Simpson (manufacturers and products)

I would recommend to anyone interested in designing anything, Henry Petrofski's new book, "Success through Failure: The Paradox of Design." Or any of his older books, for that matter, but StF describes through non-aeronautical examples very much what happens when people with limited engineering knowledge, who don't ask "what if?" or work out the unintended consequences of their improvements, improve the gyroplane. In the interests of thread peace, I won't name any names.

Here is a link to a brief interview with Petrosky at my favourite online bookstore (I actually went there to see if they had any antique gyro books in stock. No).

At one time, I wrote a review of two earlier Petrosky books and thought I posted it in my blog, but cannot find it.

cheers

Thank you! I wonder if it could be translated painlessly using some sort of software. If not, is there a similar book in English related to tractor gyros?

Sir,

thank you very much for uploading your great book.

I just skimmed it and I think it's very comprehensive (although I'm not well versed in the Spanish language).

You cover history, theory, flight and building very well.

Cheers
Erik

That is a very nice thing to do Edgardo.

Looks like a lot of knowledge and research contained in that book.

Thank you for sharing the fun.

Hi.

I bought "The Gyrocopter Pilot's Handbook (The Flying Exercises)"
by Phil Harwood (ISBN978-0-9559018-4-3)

I believe it was recommended by the Danish Gyrocopter Union, of which
I am a member (still on the ground, but taking my ground schooling this winter).

Cheers
Erik
