Names Price,

Short bio:
aerospace engineering student, currently building rockets in Mojave CA and looking to build a gyro. My interest has finally beat any excuses I could come up with to avoid doing it.

Hoping to get a good direction to start in and to avoid doing something stupid :)

Welcome to the Rotary Wing Forum Ian Price!

Welcome to the Rotary Wing Forum Ian Price!

I look forward to following your gyroplane adventure.

There is always a lot going on in Mojave.

Welcome!

Welcome!

Hi Ian,

Welcome!

From your post, seems you are starting from scratch and definitely want to 'build.' I'd recommend you start by looking at building a Gyrobee. Plan for $5,000 to $10,000 investment. Main costs will be 1) engine, 2) Blades, and 3) Rotorhead.

You can find the (public domain) plans here:
http://peachstaterotorcraft.org/content/gyrobee-plans-taggert-1997

Being an engineering student, you'll appreciate the story of the Gyrobee and Ralph Taggart, its designer. He's active here on the forum: http://www.rotaryforum.com/forum/member.php?u=475

Next step is to find some gyro folks as nearby as possible. Locate a club, or gyro fly-in, or just some individual gyro folks. Get good training!

Good luck!
Mark

Thanks for the (quick) welcome.

Mark - Thanks for the suggestion, I was leaning towards the Gyrobee because I figured it would be the easiest to take apart to move around. (Thanks for the link, it's better quality than the papers I had)

I'm definitely going to try to be active here if only to take advantage of the knowledge base here.

Thanks,
Price

Welcome,
Excellent way to go,
my Jr spent 3 months there, similar task, making composites, in summer 2014.
Great place to learn in nice high tech environment.
Now, with that experience under belt, student pilot on EASA CPL/ATPL H integrated course...
