I am going to purchase a video recording device, hopefully/likely before the end of the year.
I was looking at a GoPro Hero 3 - Black Edition.
The thing I do not like is the fisheye effect, because we are flying.

What are your recommendations for a camera and why?

Thanks

I agree with you on the GoPro fisheye being a problem for fliers.
I have a Nikon Coolpix S9700 with optical zoom. Figured that would be the hot tip. Nope. Vibration absolutely destroys the image. And this is an image stabilized camera.
Sorry I don't have a good answer.

I have a low end midland xtc 200 720p it works great about 140 degree lens not like the go pro 170......the midland xtc 280 and 300 are full 1080p.

Also check out the replay XD it has a 120 degree lens.

You can spend big buck on a Garmin virb, or any other cam system, it depends on what you want.

I sometimes just use a small canon A2200 point and shoot camera with 720p video and it works great also.

Just make sure that you shop around online for the best price.

How are you mouniting them, Scott, so vibration isn't a problem?
I suction cup my cameras on to the Dom pod but it has a lot of vibration.

I have a helmet mount, a chest strap mount, and a bracket on the side of the throttle quadrant, I need to do some more tests since I got rid of the blade vibration.

Read every post starting at the first page. If I can help you with the go pros let me know. Great cameras. Different lens are available. You don't have to come over to the dark side to view!!

GoPro cameras have wide, medium, and narrow field of view settings in 1080p resolution. The narrow or medium setting should eliminate any fish eye effect you are concerned with.

Thanks for the tip Shannon, I will most definitely check that out.

Sorry John, I did the registration thing on that site, got my reply back; but was never able to log into the site. So, I cannot log into the site to read these posts.

Hint Gab!
