A neighbor traveling in Maine saw this unique rotorcraft in a museum. I was fascinated by what I found in various online resources, and more dumbfounded that nothing on this aircraft was found within this forum! Seems like this was a 1940's predecessor to the Carter copter, or ???

I read that the single prototype used a conventional anti-torque rotor, and flew 100 mph. Not sure iof it was capable of pure gyroplane flight. But that a second prototype used a jet engine, perhaps a predecessor to NOTAR?

Best article I have found so far is this one:

Sounds more like the Piasecki Pathfinder than the Carter Copter.

The jet version is reminiscent of the Cierva W.9

The pathfinder looks way cool. I will check other resources.
