Folsom Lake disappearing

I realised I've been watching Folsom Lake dry up for a couple of years, so here's the video I threw together from my clips.

Terrible to see the effects of the drought, I lived in Grass Valley for several years, had family in Folsom, spent many hours at the lake with family.
All up and down the state reservoirs are drying up, curtailing water distribution to cities, towns, and farmers.

Solution:
1) Build pumps and storm drains, like in New Orleans, in all the east coast cities that suffer flood damage. The reduction in flood damage will pay for the system over time.
2) Build massive pipelines to pump the floodwater back to the Colorado River head.
3) Then distribute it from reservoirs downstream to all the cities' reservoirs that do not use the Colorado River.

We don't suffer from flood damage. Our weather is so good, we're in a drought.

However, because of the Caldor and Dixie fires, we've lost almost a million acres of forrest. That is a million acres of trees no longer sucking up water all day. That water will start to flow into reservoirs.

Wow - how do we ensure that doesn’t happen more? Sorry, had to figure out how to use that word for Tyger.

Must be very concerning for people living there… Since living in Colorado mountains where homes have large 1000 gallon holding tanks for the summer months where the wells go dry it’s a good lesson to learn the value of water. I found a house with public water fed by some of the larger mountains and so far water levels have been good even after months of no rain. Makes me want to move back to the east coast.

Interesting. If it were oceanic / tidal flooding being pumped out, I'm not sure what the effects of introducing salt water to a fresh water system would be. I wonder if a more efficient method of desalination could be developed by taking advantage of the long length of the pipeline instead of the process happening at a fixed location. My morning brainstorm.

Drought extends up to Canada ... forest fires all summer ..... hydro dams that export huge amounts of electricity to the USA say they will not be able to supply any more ... barely have enough for themselves.

Dave, I thought that it was against state law in Colorado to store rainwater run-off.
Specifically, cisterns are not allowed (per my understanding) as the state claims it owns all water that falls on Colorado.
Just visited Rocky Mountain National Park last week; BEAUTIFUL !

These tanks hold water pumped from the well and not rain water, and used for when the wells go dry. I have no idea about the laws here around water. My wife and I are going to move back to the east coast soon. Probably in the spring.

Of course, the population of CA has more than tripled since that dam was built. Do you think that could be affecting the water level?

I guess there can be some small upside to the water being lower...
