I peddled the Gunslinger over to the pumps to top up the front tank just as a Cherokee slipped off the ramp and into the pump stall. Sunset was 6:41, it was 5:00, and the trip home was 1:30 at 80 MPH GPS. The dad got out, Mom and daughter were already standing at the ready. Dad fussed with the damn card reader and finally got it to accept, then yelled out for me to go ahead and fill 'er up. Say what?
"I only need 3-4 gallons, Thanks. You already started it on your card?"
"Yeah, forget about it, go ahead. No, your money's no good here," he said with a smile. "This is my daughter, Emilia, and my wife."
"Hi, I'm a student pilot, too", she said as she took a step toward me and took my extended hand. How does this always happen to me? God loves me. He really, really loves me. No one else does. But God reminds me like this all the time that my life is really worth living. I finally got dad to take a twenty, then flew back to Columbia with a big ole smile. Nothing like new friends. Especially pretty ones.
Oh, BTW? I touched down at CUB at 6:40.

"Bye, and thanks for all the fish."
