I've got a 2.2 Carbureted and the RAF ignition module only fires the front cylinders.
I notice it has two parts, one two plug ealuminum box with an O ring
and another small block of aluminum.
The RAF box has a heap of internal connections that make it prone to failure.

Would anyone have the original Subaru part numbers / links?

I''m also looking at getting the Fuel injection manifold etc, from an EJ22 with fuel injection.
I'm concerned that the EJ22 fuel injection model might have a different size manifold?
Can an EJ 25 manifold fit the EJ22 and if not , has anyone ever modified an EJ25 manifold
to fit on an EJ22.

Is a 1222 model Engine what I need to use as a manifold for a EJ22?
Thanks

There are plastic manifolds on some of the fuel injected EJ20's that may be a bit lighter than the aluminium manifold. I got one, and it fitted directly on my EJ22 but I didnt get a throttle body with it so adapted another one I had. Do a bit of homework, I think there was a difference between some motors of 2 port sizes (cant remember now if that was intake or exhaust ports, and maybe on motors that had the different looking rocker covers).

Thanks Grevis, I got covered in prickles crawling thru the scrub at a Subaru wrecker, saw 2.5 manifolds laying in the weeds

on one of your previous posts, you had a pic of the ecm. I noticed (what I thought was) a fair amount of rust on one of the ground connector ring terminals.

Most ecm controlled circuits are ground switched.. meaning voltage is always present at coils (ignition/ fuel injectors) and the ground side is what is switched for the impulse.

Curious when the engine started NOT firing correctly- was it mid flight.. or was it after a long term lay off?

Thanks Rancherman,
At present, my 2.2 is cabureted, uses the RAF ignition module that appears to have input from crank and cam
that ends up in a 3 wire to the coil - 4 spark wires.
The machine had not flowin in 20 years , at first the engine ran smoothly
and when I spotted a throttle cable issue, I went to restart it after it ran nice
and it ran on just the two front cylinders.
Yes, I had a lot of bad earths on this machine and had to redo many connections.
I still suspect a bad earth but so far have not been able to fix it.
On the short term, I'd like to get it running again even with old subaru ignition module
but long term, want to put the fuel injection on from a 2.2 fuel injected version.

Fuel Pumps
I'm reading that Subaru fuel pumps provide 50 PSI and are
regulated to 35-45 psi with 37 psi at idle.
What aftermarket pumps are suitable for the RAF2000
with fuel injection?
Is there any difference between the 2.2 and the 2.5?

Thanks

Ram,

Consider removing the 20+ year old modified Subaru ignition and use a Simple Digital System ignition. There are a number of successful Subaru installations including several EJ22 and EJ25 powered gyroplanes. Do your research, search and ask around on the forum.

Hello fellow RAF owners! Just purchased an older model kit (2005 I believe) and will start building in a few weeks. I’m totally new to the building process, but definitely want to build in many of the new safety mods I’ve read about...drop keel, CLT, HS etc. First question to all of the very knowledgeable owners here is, where can I obtain these mods, and is there any help out there fabricating them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ve already spent weeks pouring over old threads doing research.

Mike
Which engine did your kit come with? EJ22 or EJ25 or something else?

Mine has an EJ22 and can be a bit anemic in high density altitudes. I don't take passengers up in the summer here in TX when it hits 100 degrees or higher. I see you're in Vegas, so you'll want the EJ25. Might as well swap it out during the build if you don't already have one. They use the same engine mount. EJ22 is fine solo, but too much power is always better in my opinion.

My other recommendation is the SDS computer versus the stock Subaru unit. I have another open cockpit 2-place with an EJ25 that I'm in the process of changing over to SDS and it's going to be great for tuning and monitoring what's going on with the engine. It's also lighter, less wiring and doesn't require an oxygen sensor so you can run Avgas when necessary.

Mike,
First, its an EJ22 the 2.2L normally aspirated engine, that I'm changing shortly to fuel injection with parts from
and E1222.
I can't afford the new CAD $8000 price tag however, I may look at a used after market programmable ECU in the future.
The Subaru Factory ECU is a great computer that uses all the censors and it can be flashed and reprogrammed
but at present, I just want to have a reliable system and will start with a stock Subaru ECU.

Now I've got to purchase Fuel Pumps, the only ones I can see on Amazon are "Evil Energy" 75 PSI 300 LPH black pumps.
I'm concerned about the stock Subaru Fuel Pressure Regulator. While this is fine for a car, perhaps it might be duplicated to
double the fuel return ability.

Fuel Rail ? Is there an after market Fuel Rail for the Suburu 2.2?
I'd like to put a Fuel Pressure Regulator right on the Fuel Rail and add a dampner.
This might be overboard, but any feedback will be greatfully appreciated.
