I have finally gotten the plane of my dreams today, A Vans RV-4. I am so excited I can't stand it!!!
Jim the fellow I bought it from and the person who built it was about in tears as I handed him the cash and he signed the bill of sale. He was very attached to this plane! He wants to start on a new side by side RV-7 now so I am sure he will be okay in a few months when he is up to his elbows in the new project.
Jim finished the RV-4 in 2003 and it now has about 140 hours total time. The engine was used and has ALOT more time than that, but knock on wood, it is running like a champ so I can't complain.
If some you guys don't know what a RV-4 is.... it is a sportplane that seats two, takeoffs and lands on very very short fields yet will cruise at 170-185 mph with this engine, top speed over 200 mph, it is strong enough for mild aerobatics and like all Vans RVs it handles like a sportscar in the sky.
It was very windy today and my insurance agent - Cobra Doc who is here on the forum - demands I get a 3 hour checkout before flying it, and the CFI was not up to braving the 25 knot gusting to 32 knot winds today So my friend and supreme pilot Barry T. rode with me to Sumter to pay for the plane and to fly it back for me. Sumter is only 75 miles from Goose Creek and Barry made it back fighting a slight headwind in only 25 minutes. Took me 2 hours in the car to make it back!
Anyway it is in the hangar waiting for some flying. Hoping the wind lays down by tomorrow so I can get checked out in it. This is the plane I have been wanting for a LONG time. Can't wait to solo it!!!
