Different props.

Use the Warp and adjust the pitch until the rpm is where you want it. I run an FI J-22 and around 5100 seems right. The IVO cockpit adjustable is a neat prop though. You also don't need a Magnum if you go IVO. The middle one is correct for an EJ-22.....at least according to Ivo.

Well, I'v done a few hours lately in conditions and flying I'm more familer with and the Ivo wins hands down.
I havn't done any accurate testing, just observations,[ miner details only confuse a SCG.]
After 6 1/2 hours of slow, high fly'n today [round 500'] , and 7 hours of 'trim'n the trees ' yesterday in bout 35*c I'v found the Ivo had more TO rpm,[bout 300],less cruise rpm [bout 200], needed less fuel per hour [1 to 2 liters less] and the 912 coolant temp woz bout 5 to 8 degrees down.
Actual thrust "seems" to be a little less at the bottom end of the AS range but it's not enough to become a hazard.[It could just be my imagination too]. Every where else it sh!ts all over the 3 BL WD.
And after 13 1/2 hours, my ears are very greatful for the much guieter prop.

And another thing, someone asked a while ago,"do all dust devels spin the same way?"
Well, as I woz putt'n round for over 6 hours with nuthn to do but watch a mob o cows walk along a fence, I entertained meself by chaseing these dusty critters in the gyro. And with plenty to choose from I noticed that 'convection triggered, virtical wind vorcities' can spin both ways.
I also noticed that the bigger ones[ 20' to 300+'] spin antieclockways, while the 1' to 20' 'rippers' that do bout 3000rpm were spin'n clockways.
What dose it all mnean??????

Sounds like the Ivo is the way to go. I particularly like the less noise part as well as using a little less fuel.
I have been thinking about a change in props and on your info Birdy, I reckon I will give an Ivo a try !My WD has given great service so I'm not complaining.
There was a story about about dust devils spinning the wrong way meant rain coming.

I agree with Brian, was alway told as a kid, not that i listened much, that if you see a wily wily sprin the opposite way it means rain on the way, know i've grown up i think its crap.

An update on the prop situation ere.

Have done bout 150 hours in the last couple o munths with the 2 bl Ivo magnum, and overall I was happy with the performance.
The only down side to a 2 bl prop is the unavoidable 'vibration' that cums with it.
I thought I could live with some vibes coz that seemed to be the only downside..........but then the affects of the vibes started to appear.
I don't usea standard rotax exhaust system, instead, I made my own lighter, slightly louder set up with next to no back pressure.
The setup had done the job perfectly for bout 2000 hours, but shortly after changing to the 2 bl Ivo, it started to crackup.Think'n it was only a 'time' thing I welded and braced it up, only to find it broke again at the next weakest point.
This was prove'n to be a pain in the @ss coz I still had plenty of fly'n to do yet, and I was get'n sick o tye'n it up with wire to get the jobs finished, thgen have'n to weld it up again and again.
Then the penny dropped, the 2 bl vibe.
I'm now fly'n with 3 Ivo magnums at 62", and am pleasantly supprised with the performance.

3bl WD / Ivo [Mag]2bl / Ivo[Mag] 3bl
DIA, 68" / 62" / 62"
Average
Max rpm 4900 / 5300 / 5100

Average
cruise rpm 4300 / 4100 / 4000

Max clmb
rate 650fpm / 800fpm / 1000+fpm

Fuel burn 14-15lpm / 13-14lpm / 11-12lpm.

Sorry, thought you mite av been interested.

Some pilots with a standard RAF tail got a drumming noise with the Prince prop. I did also for awhile and then it disappeared or I tuned it out. Maybe it disappeared when I installed the self-adjusting trim-tab thingy. No drumming with the tall tail. Birdy, why did you go with the Magnum. The middle prop should be solid enough. That's what IVO recommended for mine.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the above post is bout the ferel, not the RAF.
I also forgot to mention the 3bl mag is much quieter than the WD :) , bout the same volume as the 2bl mag but with the increased freaquency. IOW, the mag 'sounds' like its push'n the air backwards, the WD sounded like it was just flogg'n the crap outa it.

It was Ivo's recomendation Ken, for the 914[RAF]. I got the same for the ferel to standardise the machines for interchangeability.[ now thats a BIG word for a SCG. :p ]
Think Ivo suggested the mag coz of the alt, heat, DA and the small diameter.[62"]

Now I'm get'n better use of the avalable power with the smaller prop, I can drop me TL a couple o inches, so its closer to CLT than the current 3" above ;) .[without jack'n the thing up like them butt ugly Doms :D :D :D .]

An old but extremely interesting thread. Was down at Rotor Flight Dynamics researching rotors and heads when Ernie asked about our prop. A comment he made was very pertinant to our situation where the gyro will be down in the boonies with spares a long way away. Prop durability. Apparently some of the light and very efficient composite props can be very intolerent of FOD with the blade shattering rather than nicking.

Was interested if any of you had any experience of the durabilty of IVO's Birdy you are operating in rough dirt strips what are your feeling on the subject.
