Where our Government BOUGHT some 550 million $ worth of helicopters from Russia and are giving them to the Afghanistan..looks like Putin and Barry done tied a Knot.

Ain't that sum stuff.

More than anything this frustrates me that our U.S. Manufactures really don't make anything with the HOGE requirements for that part of the world. The Ruski ships are the cheapest ones that'll do the mission unfortunately.

Olde news from 2010/2011 era

Made some jobs for the boys in Alabama too - see this Huntsville news report

It's aid for Afghanistan -the money then bought the best helicopter for that region - rugged, hot and high. The Afghans are used to flying Soviet built kit.

It makes sense.

Plenty of "US" operated Mi-17 out in Afghanistan too - you bought them for your DoS and CIA guys

Alert, alert, 3 or 4 year ago our government bought the most cost effective equipment that would do the job well. We are so screwed!!!

Steve,

Yes, this is old news and has been discussed on this forum previously. It's the most intelligent and cost effective decision. Why give a possible future enemy the same equipment we use?
