Sorry for the off topic question, but does anybody know what those engines are on the Cri-Cri plane? I saw the video and it is really bugging me.

Engines are used very different plane by plane. Common are engines from lawnmower, motor-cycles, and also from RC models. Also was installed jet power. Average prop size is about 70 cm, and power of each engines are between 9 and 20 PS. Nowadays, builders are using engines Valmet, JPX, Limbach, 3W, Rotax, Zenoah, Hirth, and I am glad to see, that are recommended also Czech ZDZ Model.

Why yes I do because I am building one. Those engines are 15HP JPX PUL 212 single cylinder motors. I most likely will be using the 3W motors. Here are some links to the engines. The single cylenders need to be lower HP so you do not get alot of vibration, the small 17HP boxers are great motors more balaced and more powere. The Cri Cri must have a true 15HP to sustain level flight with the 17HP 3W and some of the other boxers on the list you are safe even if you lose one engine,. You can still fly safely and land safely.

I just happen to have a set of unnumbered CriCri plans. I think they are what's called the Argentina plans.

Colombian Cri Cri plans they are a free download in several places if for them and thwere is a yahoogroup that you can just get everything you could ever want to know and need to build your own Cri cri here is the address.

once you register give it a day and you will have access to everything.

Fiveboy why don't you build one?

Dan did you consider the turbines. What a blast a twin jet that size.

Thanks a lot everybody. This might just be my next project. What size turibines would be sufficient? Where can i get them?

Tim

I did consider them, the turbin must fit the same requirments as the standrad prop engines without the care for prop tips going supersonic. However there is a trust treshold for the fuselage that can not be exceeded. Here is a copny that you could het a turbin from if you wanted to go that direction.

There is two places you could get a turbin from for a Cri Cri.

I am using a gas prop for sinplicity and reliability.

Dan

they are rated at 18HP @ 9700 rpms I do belive the prop tips would go supersonic needs to develop full power at around 6200 rpms.

It is consiedred a single engine as designed. each engine providing only hlaf the power needed for clean flow, however having said that it is the only small aircraft of this size approved by the FAA for acrobatic flight with a max of 10G.

I will need to get more information about this but that is ok I will build it anyway just love the challange.

Dan

Please dont get get me wrong... But DAN I LOVE YOU!!!!!

Thanks for the link... I have been searching for these blueprints for so much time now!!!! Thank you soooooo much!!!!

You can use the Cri Cri to build multi engine hours.

Can you imagine what the radio conversation with a tower might sound like from someone in a Cri Cri with turbines, "Tower the is experimental twin jet 10 miles out over marker -----------????????????????

Does each engine have to be 15 horsepower?

CriCri can still flight level with only one engine JPX PUL 212 of 15 hp
Prototype was two engine VALMET of 9 HP

I was installing 2 Moki Radials. Sold plane before finishing it.
