Cierva used coupled pitch-lag hinges for his jump takeoff experiments. Under the influence of drive torque, the blades were driven against the lag stops which rotated the blades to zero lift via the tilted lag hinges. Upon release of drive torque, the blades returned to normal flying pitch.
Jumps were nothing spectacular because the blades couldn’t go beyond normal flying pitch.
