What better way ... but with a scenic flight over the incredibly scenic Stanthorpe & Granite belt area!

OK .... it wasn't inna gyro ... & kinda high being FW ... but hell flying IS FLYING ... & Mum & I had a BLAST!!!!

As the 2 others originally on the charter cancelled (idiot was chasing a snake last night with the ride-on mower & rolled it over when he hit a bank!!) :der

..... we had the flight to ourselves & our pilot friend Cheryl gave us 3 passes over the home property!! Good thing as even with "throttled back" Piper lanceII ... we were rushing over earth @ 160kts @ 1200' ... so I was hopping to get pics / video ... darnit ... only had a 2G SD card & ran out of space!!!

We had less than 5 utterly perfect flying days since Xmas up here .. with low cloud & storms....
today the dawn sky was supreme ... by 8am .... little wind, clear sky with far distant cumulous ... fantastic visibility ... it just doesn't get better!

Had an amazing hour long fly around .. Cheryl was impressed with my navigation ..... even though I hadn't flown the area ( as an adult)... a 1/2 lifetime of familiarity with the district & landmarks & recent Google-earth virtual flying on computer helped a lot!

I got to hold the yoke briefly as she took a pic for me!

HOT DAMN ... that was the fix I needed! ...Mum had a great time too ... good to get her out for an excursion!

.....now see if this slow internet will post a pic or 2!!!

Sounds like a fun filled day!!!
Thanks for sharing with a pictures.

I took Patches up and did my 3 night landing.... Once up there could not help flying over the city lights... Beautiful at night! I love to fly... Anything, but gyroplanes are in an entirely different class of flying FUN!!!

Way to make life a party!!!!

Granite belt scenery

Granite belt scenery

Bald Rock .... national park area .... "tiger country for gyro" ..... but with a carefully planned route .. could stay over open valley country & still get decent view!

Climbed up this sucker more times that I can remember .... the panorama in all directions is amazing !

Even cooler to fly over ... after being a ground maggot for so long!

I was in Canns (Spelling) a beach resort in Queens on one of the anniversary of arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson... Australia Day. It was a party!!

Another local attraction...

Another local attraction...

on the SEQld/Nthn NSW border ranges ..... the east flowing rivers have cut back into the range escarpment ...some 20 miles over the eons .... where they now drop to near sea level ... are many spectacular waterfalls.

This one is not far from Bald Rock ... about 15km rough track drive in but quite an awesome feature - popular with picnicers & hikers!

Home ... for 1/2 my life!

Home ... for 1/2 my life!

This shot is of the western end ( looking N) of the family cattle property ( certified organic beef) "Mossvale" ... the new huge dam that my brother just had made is for irrigating organic grown cabbage for a contract with a sauerkraut manufacturer in Byron Bay! ... a new enterprise ! The catchment of the big dam is augmented by a channel tapping the smaller dam in the next gully.
This new earthworks was a fantastic navigation landmark .. I was able to direct our pilot right back for the second pass over the property ... after we had done the rounds!
