I just got back from the best Bensen Days I have ever had....and I didnt leave the ground one inch!
John Rountree, David Bacon and I hung out and it was just lots of fun watching those two experience their first Bensen Days.
Everyone down there had awesome experiences....these are some of mine...
I took several pictures which I will post over the next few days,,,but nothing like Tim Oconners and Ednas. Those two are in a league of their own!
I personally saw Tims excellent video capture of Scott Essexs emergency landing...and all I can say ....what great footage....and what superb piloting by Scott. None of us want an engine out...but after one is completed successfully without injury or damage......it makes a most valuable logbook entry and a memory that will last the rest of your life. Way to handle it Scott!
Tim O'connor is quite the entertainer with his magic tricks. I am still scratching my head. Thanks Tim....you are a cool guy.
John...aka Allin....is just a firecracker of energy. I thought I got wound....well...he wound me tighter. John was like a kid in a candy store....and its just pure pleasure hanging out with him. He can make anybodys world a better place. What a positive and dynamic personality.
David Bacon is one down to earth cool guy....and he was a pleasure to hang out with as well. I would love to come out to his world and see him fly at El Mirage.
Vance......what can I say about that man.....he adds so much to my life everytime I visited with him. He was always being visited...he just is a magnet that draws people to him. Vance and I still are not sure of each others humor...but we both had fun trying to humor the other. I think in the end....we both succeeded.
Edna.....you are such a sweet person.....Vance is very lucky to have you as his best friend.....you two were meant for each other....and you can just see a renewed fire in Vances eye. I am so happy for you two. Hope to see you with Vance again at Mentone or next Bensen Days.
Ron Awad was just being himself.....and I am always impressed at the level he flies at. Ron, Steve McGowan, Ernie Boyette, Greg Spicola, Dave Seace, and several I am sure I left out but did not see fly......are such supreme pilots....its intimidating watching them.
Ron was ringing out that Yamaha and he was very modest about his efforts....and very punctual on giving Todd...aka ....Racer the credit he deserves for this excellent engine that Todd adapted to gyros.
I was EXTREMELY impressed with its performance and Rons demonstrating the max that machine can do. Way to go Ron,,,,you were the TOP entertainer and doer at Bensen Days.
Steve McGowan .....I cant tell you how much respect I have for that MAN, his integrity....and his flying skills. I feel so humbled to have him throw nice comments my way....I wish I had the time to just shut down the stair shop and go to Georgia and hangout with him.
Ernie Boyette and I havent talked a whole lot to each other...but every time he says something....he is dead on....and I listen. That man is very modest and I saw him flying with just as much skills as the rest of the ones I saw.
Ernie is a very conscientious person and I absolutely love his new single place enclosed gyro. That guy amazes me with his accomplishments and his modesty about what he has acheved. That just shows he is a class act.
Tim Veroi and Mike Bantum are a lot of fun to kid around with......Tim cracks me up on his seriousness....and just the way he can command attention. I didnt get to spend much time with these two,,,but it would have been fun.
Greg Spicola is such a funny guy to sit back around the fire and listen to. He is a clown! The music the guys were playing was just a pleasant ending of each day.
Tom Milton ....I never get to sit with him long enough....he just never runs out of new stories......
Chuck Roberg is just a smooth and mellow fellow...cool under pressure...I never see him get rattled......
Scott Lewis is such a doer....he knows how to get stuff done either by doing it himself...or delegating it out. That man is one head chief in my book. He was so kind and gave me lots of rope to do my thing. Thanks Scott.
Roy Davis....I saved you for last. You are the most layed back person I have seen.....and are a pleasure to visit with. I was watching you during the egg drop and when I saw that whole carton of eggs tumbling down as one unit...at a trajectory that was going to be close....I thought. ...Roy......then that English accent of the gyro pilot in the movie..."The Road Warrior" came to mind....the phrase...."now thats dishonest" came to mind and it fit Roys accent. I later found out Roy was trying to dump the eggs individually and cluster cluck me...but the whole carton went as one. Boy...did that make a thud just 4 feet from my chair! Roy won with that toss.....
You know whats wrong with the above list???? It doesnt include the dozens of other people that I never got the honor to hang out with ,,,,and be so impressed to write a paragraph about them. But....I only had 3 days.....you would need 3 months to experience all the fantastic people that were at Bensen Days.
We all have our own personal experiences.....and these are some of mine. I know I have left out some of the people that also impressed me....but these are the ones that come to the top of my head.
Thanks again everyone at Bensen Days for making this the best yet.....I am looking forward to 2010 already!
My pictures will be coming in a few days...I am bushed.
