I purchased a bensen that had a dropped keel in order to accomadate a rotax 503. It had a ground accident which broke the front part of the keel. The front part of the gyro keel is raised which brings it up for centerline thrust. I have a spare parts bensen so I decided to use the keel from it which I cut to match the other one perfectly. All the bolt holes line up. For some reason the original mast is longer than an original bensen. It is 64 inches and the original is 58 inches . The longer mast is a single square tube where as the other one is the doubled redundant mast. My question is does the mast have to be that tall or can I use the shorter stronger one.

You mention in another thread that with your stick all the way back and you sit in your gyro the blades were hitting the ground behind you. Question how much clearance do you have from your rotor blades to your tail With the stick all the way back.

At this point you might be better off going with the taller mast so your blades will clear the ground.

Others on the form here or more knowledgeable about the single mast versus the redundant mast. I will only add that the single mast is more flexible and you won't notice as much shake in your stick

The taller mast would also contribute to the center line thrust by raising the disk and allowing the seat to be higher too....
The doubled mast seems to be widely accepted, just make another one, there isn't much to it.....
