In addition to the spot landing contest how about a short takeoff contest to see who can take off in the shortest distance? We could have 2 categories, single place and 2 place.

Regardless of the contests, it should be noted that with competitive people bad things can happen. I'm all in favor of contests but I think the organizers have to set guide lines on who they are going let participate. If Charlie were still with us I can guarantee there would be strict guidelines.

The contests at Waxahachie included a time of flight tri-angular course with takeoff distance factored in. I thought this was one of the most exciting contests I've been witness too. However, the entrants were limited to the 'professionals' more or less or at the very least those with a lot of experience. Even at that Ken Rehler, who was probably the least experienced of the group, lost a prerotator on takeoff and almost had an incident. The pylon race at Mentone last year also limited contestants.

I havent forgot my $50 McDonalds gift certificates that will go to the spot landing winner. Its on my list of stuff to bring to Wauchula. :D

Stan

Mmmmm, McDonalds.

You know that is unfair, Ron will do anything to win a free meal at McD's!!!

Yeap!

Stan me thinks you should split up the prize to allow a prize for 1st through 3rd place....

What if participants pitched in $5.00 each with the winnings going to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners?

Ron: When I was offering the first place prize of $50....it was my way of thanking all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to make Bensen days possible. I am looking forward so much to coming down to Bensen days. There wasnt a spot landing contest last year...and this was my way of encouraging one. If someone else wants to sponsor a 2nd and 3rd place prize....thats up to them. If the first place winner wants to share....thats up to him/her. I feel that since its coming out of my pocket....the first place prize is up to me. $50 to the winner.... :D

Stan

MJ, just don't sponsor it if your worried about insurance. It is a public use runway and if Stan wants to throw some flour down in a circle on the runway or even taxiway and see how close someone lands to it, that does not make it a contest.... wink wink!

John Magnam is one of the most anal people you may ever meet, and he checked into it and spot landings were one of the only things EAA insurance allowed....

If you are going to have a spot landing contest I may have to blow off my obligation in Dallas so I can beat Ron again....:D

Ron, I would hate for Chief Beatty, or Carl Sanders from the local Govt see this. Wonder. There is Certain things that can and cannot happen with EAA Event Coverage.

And talking with our EAA Chapter Cor. not so sure yet. We need the umbrella of EAA Insurance to put on any fly-in, as you know we transfer the coverage each month to where our fly-in is being held.

Lets not put Wauchula City in the position if it is watched and seen, as we did not say any contest would be held when getting the Citys permission for the use of this week long event.

MJ :)

Chris: That G-force landing system has got to be one heck of a tool as far as "plopping" in and winning....:D

MJ: I dont want to cause any problems. If it cant be done...it cant be done. :)

Stan

MJ, would you like me to have John Magnum contact Richard to clear this up? We are both PRA chapters and both EAA chapters as well. I am sure the rules for you guys are the same as the rules for us guys!

Now if you just don't want us to do this then just say so, and Stan can just give me the Mcdonalds cards since everyone knows I would win anyway! ;)

That is just setting yourself up for someone to try to take that free meal from you!

Mj I will leave it up to you guys if you want to do this or not. No big deal if you don't want to do it.
