Bensen Days 2008 event news thread

......I will be doing the double hangtest at a time that Ron will post later. I would like to do Rons GyRonimo gyro ...and several others and send it in to Rick Gilley for a PRA article......

Stan
Stan, if I recall correctly you had to use the balance method on some gyros because of the difficulty in finding a place to connect for the 2nd hang. If so then plans should be made for a jack of some kind to do the heavy lifting!

And I don't think you were able to hang test at least one machine (SportCopter?) because you couldn't lift high enough to get the front wheel off the ground. Will there be any changes in equipment or procedure to cover those cases?

Doug that Butterfly bait was just dangling out there for you, and got a real crash strike.

It had tongue in cheek all over it, but echo your heartfelt sentiments re excellence.

This event sounds hugely appealing and am hoping I and significant other will be able to make it over if at all possible.
She has even said she would give it a try to see if she might be able to learn, and that has to be good news...except might cut down on my flying. Hmm might think about that one.

Can someone post the latest parking chart? I need to know who I am near so I know if I need to bring industrial strength earplugs (for them) because of my kids!

Bensen Days 2008

Is there a link to a current daily itinerary or schedule of events?

Now that we have power and water there isn't any reason why we couldn't bring in a jacuzzi. Anyone have a spare jacuzzi they can throw on a trailer and bring along?

Note that the times I have underlined and made bold, the airport will be closed for open flying, so plan your flights accordingly. Also note that other than those times it is open flying.

There will be NO.... I repeat NO flying gyros or other participating aircraft during the pilots briefing. If you want to be in the air and get a early morning flight in before breakfast that is fine, but be on the ground and at the pilots briefing at 8am.

You will not be allowed to fly without a daily briefing by the airboss. The airboss will give you a colored sticker to place on your helmet to signify to the airboss and flightline crew that you have been briefed for that day. No sticker and you will not fly!

We encourage everyone to wear a helmet and to use a radio.

To enter the Navigate This contest, there will be a signup sheet and details of the contest at the registration desk. This contest is open to all pilots.

The enter the Spot Landing and Bomb Drop practices and Contest, you will need to sign up at the registration desk and get approval from fly-in officials / airboss before being allowed to participate. We are not reserving this contest for only extreme high time pilots, we want everyone who is able to safely perform the manuvers to be able to enter and compete, but we want to avoid excessive risk of accidents, therefore you may need a CFI to vouch for you if your flying skills are unknown or questionable.

I am currently working on the rules of both contests, but needless to say they will be easy yet ALOT of fun to both participate in and watch!

Scott Lewis will have several Electric Adapters to rent or sell ( Scott please confirm! ) to be able to plug a normal household extension cord into the campsite power outlets if you need one. Scott is also bringing a slide, a inflatable bounce house and other kid oriented items to keep the little ones busy.

If there is any questions or comments or additions I need to know about, please let me know.

Hey Ron, will there be a printed handout with the schedule of events at the registration desk? I'd like to try video taping Jake's welding demo and Ernie's rotor blade clinic (with their permission of course).

Damn, I actually have a portable jacuzzi... Anyone driving past me with a BIG flatbed??

After this past winter the frog pond in the back would seem like a sauna to this frozen a-- florida boy! 29 degrees this morning with a light frost and a "light" freeze for tonight. The bad thing is the peach and apple trees are blooming after the past few days of good warm weather.Looks like no more apple butter again this year.
looking forward to a week in the sunshine state. Will be leaving sat. the 29th.

Ron, is that the Solomon's Castle, the one that's open from 11am-4pm? I'm just checking cause it looks like they'll take groups for lunch but not dinner, unless Our Fearless Leader has worked this out already?

It looks cool, that's for sure.

Thanks for posting the schedule Ron!

Angie,
They make a special dinner for us every year. They have been doing it for years. It is always a blast. The food is pretty good and the company is even better. Good way to get to know some of the gyro heads away from the airport.

Ron, Do you have a newer parking chart than 2/2?

I called to confirm a Friday dinner and they told me they are now open on Fridays, so no problems. There is a chance there may be other people there eating, so we may not have the whole place to ourselves, but I think it will still work out.

Ron,
Hope you don't mind but I put your schedule for BDs into a condensed form. I hated to mess with it since you put a lot of time into getting it together, but thought that some might like to have a single piece of paper they can stick in their pocket with just times/events and can refer to yours for more detail.
If you see errors, or Ron if you object, let me know right away.
Here it is for anyone to copy and print: (Can anyone show me how to insert a .wps (Works Word Processor) as an attachment?) It looks a lot better............
