Back Country Gyro Ops. Equipment, mods, techniques.

SHi, yes 170hp is a lot but this engine turns right so I DON'T have the problem of those who use the 915 or 916!! The head is completely new, designed by me, for this engine
Ciao, Strike. I hadn't heard of the MWFly engine; impressive! I like the choice of rotation direction. Glad to see a viable Rotax competitor.
Is the geared redrive rated for 1800 hrs as the engine?

Hi Eric.
I got snapped for the music by Vimeo. Here is a link to the video with no music. Suggest you play your own choice in the background.
Cheers
Pete

At 30:16, now that's a proper gyro nosewheel! Sportcopter mod? Great video of it in action.

Ciao, sciopero. Non avevo sentito parlare del motore MWFly; degno di nota! Mi piace la scelta del senso di rotazione. Sono contento di vedere un valido concorrente Rotax.
Il riduttore a ingranaggi è valutato per 1800 ore come motore?

PUnfortunately it seems that if you don't fit Rotax you can't fly SAFELY!! Too bad it's not like that!!! Technology moves forward, well there are many who keep their eyes closed!! His ears are plugged!!

SHi everyone, this is my very modified Gyro Ela 170hp MWFly engine 22" busch wheels and 8" front
Hi Luca,
Can you give some information on why you chose the MWfly engine? How does it compare to the Rotax engines? Is there a big price difference?
What is the fuel consumption? Are there any known problems? Are Magni and ELA offering the MWfly engines as an option?
Many thanks for any information you can share. John H.

Ciao Luca,
John H.
PUnfortunately no one offers this engine because the certification procedures cost TOO MUCH!!! For the rest I can tell you that it is a good engine, very powerful, a lot of torque being a 2500cc, Ed the cost with the same power is half! In addition to being extremely easy to assemble.

Luca, could you tell me what metal you have used for your frame please?

Regards...........Chook.

The metal you have used for your spine or chassis? Stainless steel (306, 304) or chromoly?

I understand that the translation is the problem.
Regards.......Chook.

Hi Luca, Many thanks for your reply and for the photos. John H.

From Post 149 earlier in this thread by Loftus:
Now I recall seeing this once before; really cool. Are there any threads anywhere on the details of the mechanism and the technique?
His most recent video (from a few months back in Nov. 2023) posted to his youtube page:
(Note the admiration for her grandfather in one of the four comments!)

Michel Cross (France) used a Sikorsky tail rotor assembly for that jump takeoff ability. It ascends nose high like the Air & Space 18A until he reaches whatever A/S he likes b/4 going more level in pitch.

I wonder if a slightly more level pitch attitude in the sequence would result in faster acceleration to flight speed?

In another, slightly older video of his, back in July, he answers a viewer's query about the engine he uses:
Suzuki 1100 gsxr, "a In-line four, four-stroke motor, that produces a maximum peak output power of 143.00 HP (104.4 kW) @ 9500 RPM" (-https://www.ultimatespecs.com/motorcycles-specs/suzuki/suzuki-gsx-r-1100-1991."

"The Suzuki GSX-R1100 is a sport bike from Suzuki's GSX-R series of motorcycles produced from 1986 until 1998. 1,074 cc (65.5 cu in) 4-stroke 16-valve DOHC inline-4" -wikipedia.org

Interesting that he has found success in using a M/C engine in a gyroplane, where many others have failed due to excess heat produced by extreme use of required HP in a draggy aircraft.

Also, did he use the M/C gearbox or separate it from the engine?

Those are very impressive T.O.'s .

Absolutely minimal ground roll, a few feet, and then quite a short level flight in ground effect accelerating before climbing away.

He does have quite a bit of power in hand though.

Leigh: Although using a different way to jump, is his machine similar to what you were hoping Carter Copter would produce?

Absolutely Kevin...I certainly drank the Cooled on that one although I later discovered that Jays's modified butterfly was a one trick pony and those tip weighted rotors made it's handling very poor...according to Rusty Nance who used to demo it.
