This is why on short final in my gyro I NEVER fly down the centerline. I fly over the grass in the middle, kick right and check behind me (crazy ivan) then land at the hold short intersection.
My time on the active can be measured in seconds.
I don't want to give anyone a chance to land on me!
Unfortunately, glider tow can take five to ten minutes, so the exposure time is long.

1956 Cessna 172. No letter after the 172, it's too old.
Indeed it is. The first lesson one should learn is that to "see", you actually have to  look outside, and expect to see something.
Very much like riding a motorcycle (or even a bicycle on busy streets). You need to look because you cannot assume that you will be seen.

Flew again this afternoon. Had been having problems with mic audio level so announced my intentions. Took off flying the pattern and a Skyhawk in the pattern told me my audio was weak and barely readable. Had made a few changes so went ahead and landed and tweaked mic gain.

Audio good so took off and flew away from the airport to work on slow flight. Got down to 30 kts and flew that around for awhile. Lots of touch and go traffic at the airport so carefully came back and entered the pattern with 3 fixed wings doing touch and gos and me doing stop and gos. No issues but tiring keeping everything in order so landed and taxied back to my hangar.

Going out tomorrow to start working on vertical descents.

Thank you for sharing the fun Bobby.

Flight at slow airspeeds is part of the practical test standards.

I feel flight at slow airspeeds helps to demonstrate how the feel of the controls change with a reduction in indicated air speed so you notice when the airspeed is low without looking at the air speed indicator.

It is also instructive to see how much slower the climb rate is at slow airspeeds.

In my experience because of the higher power settings with less air flow for cooling the chance of an engine failure is greater practicing flight at slow airspeeds.

Because of the altitude used to get the gyroplane back up to approach speed for landing; when I practice flight at slow airspeeds I fly at a minimum of one thousand feet above the ground and identify the emergence landing options before I began.

In my opinion steep descents and vertical descents should also be begun at a higher altitude so you can be finished with the maneuver before getting below 600 feet agl.

I feel there is value in always doing clearing turns before any unusual maneuver as that is also part of the practical test standards.

Glad to hear your enjoying your gyro, and it seems doing very well with it Bobby. I was always interested in what Nicolas had done with the Genesis.

If one had been approved in the UK I would definitely have got one, but then I must admit getting together with Denis and making Blue has been a wonderful adventure, and resulted in a very exciting, powerful and responsive machine that I am absolutely delighted with.

I've got a good practice area that is well away from the airport. Large Ranch with lots of cleared areas. No towers, power lines etc.

Thanks Leigh. I'm really enjoying my time in my Genesis and practicing the various maneuvers. I really like the way it handles and performs. A fixed wing landed ahead of me yesterday and turned to watch me prerotate and then take off!

Bobby, you are going to have to put up with a lot of fixed-wing pilots stopping for a long jealous look at you in your cool gyro having fun. LOL.
Just remember you are small up in the sky and they may not see you when it's important. So you need to keep a good eye on them.

I managed to get in some late afternoon flying yesterday. Wind was borderline but did some stop and gos and then more slow flying. This time I was down to 25kts. Felt like I was sitting still.

Wow, I was, wind at 10kts so my ground speed was 15kts!

Looks like you are having fun, keep testing your skills and the gyro, never know when you might need it.
I was doing a vertical descent to lose some altitude the other day, airspeed was at 0, my camera said 14mph. The action overlay on the camera reports altitude, so I was going down at 14.

That’s so much fun especially if you kick a little rudder and do a slow 360. Drives fixed wing guys nuts when you do that.
