One of the problems with trying to set some goals and priorities for the ASC Rotor Wing is the difficulty in trying to get input from Wing members. The most obvious option is an annual Wing meeting in association with the ASC KIMO Nationals over the Labor Day weekend. The fly-in will be at Three Rivers (Michigan) again this year and hopefully we will have enough gyroplane pilots to set up a meeting. I urge all Wing members who can make the KIMO Nationals to do so!

Mentone seems like another useful opportunity as I know that a number of Wing members will probably be there. What do you think of the possibility of trying to set up a Wing meeting on Saturday?

Still another possibility is to set up an ASC Rotor Wing Forum group right here on this site. The Rotor Wing represents an excellent opportunity to showcase gyroplanes to the wider Sport/Microlight aircraft community. However, we are a small group so focus and priorities are important. I could certainly use some input in terms of where the Wing should be going.

No, Yes & Yes!

No, Yes & Yes!

Ralph, I'm not sure if everyone here is aware that within the ASC there is a Rotor Wing! Or for that matter if everyone even knows what ASC is and does. I do!

I'm not sure how many gyros or Rotor Wing members show up at KIMO but I suspect the ones that do are in the region. Consequently I believe the chances are better that more ASC members will be at Mentone than at KIMO. I vote for having a wing meeting at Mentone. If Tom Milton can arrange to put it on the schedule board, that would be great.

Your thought about having a Forum group also sound good. Norm was able to set up secure areas that were only accessible to specific people so if Todd and the software allows then it would add value.

ASC @ Mentone

I would be glad to set aside a time for an ASC Rotorwing meeting at Mentone. I talked with Jim Stephenson and Greg Gremminger last week and we will be having an ASC sanctioned event and competitions at the Regional Rotorcraft fly-in at Shelbyville, IL. in September this year.
I would like to see ASC rotorcraft wing competitions at Bensen Days, PRA convention, ROC and Shelbyville every year.

PRA Chapters!

PRA Chapters!

Ralph, I'm going to do a serious hi-jack of this thread since Tom has replied.

Tom, it has been mentioned before but has any more thought been given to scheduling a PRA Chapter reps meeting at Mentone?

Dean,

Thanks for your comments and I think we can all live with your latest hi-jack attempt. :=)

Tom,

I would very much appreciate it if you could find a Saturday slot for a Rotor Wing meeting.

All,

I would like to address two primary agenda items:

(1) Goals and priorities for the coming year.

(2) ASC is very competition oriented, with programs for powered parachutes and PPGs, trikes, and fixed wings. What would a safe but interesting gyro competition look like and how can it be administered?

Any other items of interest could also be addressed as time permits.

Ralph,

I'm an ASC member and a BFI thru ASC. I'll be sure to attend the ASC meeting on saturday.

Ralph,
I to am an ASC member of the rotorwing group, as well as having a fixed wing ultralight. I would love to help with the saturday meeting. Since I am located down here in the Mentone area, I can help arrange things if you need me.

I will also be at the ASC nationals with what-ever is flying or not on hand to show.

I agree that a spot on this forum for the rotorwing group would also be benifical. Todd, please add this if you can. Donations will follow ! :)

As for the competition criteria for ASC .... a couple of us here at chapter 81
have thrown around some ideas like. bomb drop on a small target (14" frying-pan) using a raw egg. (part of the challange is not breaking the egg during the flight). Some of us have had previous experience playing arial laser tag.
(kind of like dog-fighting without the bullets). By mounting laser tag equipment to the front of the gyro, and a laser target/tag on the back of your gyro. I would also mount a cheap laser pointer so that I have a visual of my target shot.

Probably a little much for some folks, but would not take much to set up, and can use off-the-shelf gaming components, and be retro-fitable to any craft.

spot landings, and best aircraft carrier landing can also be performed.

I always liked the idea of a closed course race .... maybe combined with the laser tag system.

just my thoughts!

It's a done deal. We shall have an ASC Rotorwing meeting on Sat.

Dean, I will also schedule a Chapter co-ordinators meeting as well.

We should do an "Internet" meeting at some point too. Nice to put faces with names. It could be after seminars one evening so folks could sit and chat.

According to Tom's schedule, we have a meeting slot at 2PM on Saturday. Should be interesting now that Sport Pilot is out!

have you given any thought to the ideas listed here for rotorwing events?

would love to hear your thoughts on the info that has been posted here!

Ralph, were you able to find out if ASC distributes their magazine for retail sales?
