Thanks Doug.

It does take a level of patience and persistence, among other things. And maybe 37 years of teaching middle school kids taught me to have that view of human nature. But make no mistake, I did NOT say I liked it.

I value your opinion.

Over the years, whatever you have posted can usually be taken to the bank.

Here's the text of my original post #54 that I shouldn't have posted in the "Bensen Days" thread:
___________________

There usually is a party. And I have the pictures to prove it!

Since I will not be attending Bensen Days this year, I wanted to make one post here to alleviate any speculation about my motivations. It’s very simple really. I took a stand and I know I’m right. Unfortunately, my principles are in conflict with the club’s interests. But all you guys, even Ron, are important enough to me to cause me to modify my actions for the benefit of the club and the event.

You may take me at my word when I say that none of my opinions or intentions have changed at all since first stated. I’m simply making a temporary accommodation.

I intend to honor my word and continue to help set up the event. And I will be out to visit with the early birds, but I’m going to choose to stay home this year simply out of principle.

You guys are welcome to use any space available in my hangar. Scott, Mike, Ed, Larry and Greg, you guys get first shot. I’m sure Davey and the others will be good hosts.

Please do me a favor and don’t initiate any further discussion of this here. If anyone needs any further clarification, you know how to contact me. This post was made simply to eliminate speculation about my motivations. I felt you deserved more than me just not showing up.

Thanks.

Rick,
I unstand your stance, but i sure wish you would reconsider your absence will be felt and in the end you are only punishing yourself and your friends and gyro family like myself.

Greg,

After all we've talked about, I really appreciate you understanding.
I'm in a difficult situation and I've made a decision. I'm trying hard to keep my promises. But I also have to be able to live with myself.

Honest to god, I only made the post as a courtesy. I could have only told the guys at my hangar. I could have posted a copy in all three of our hangars. But there are a lot of other people I care about. Since anyone reading this thread will know the background of the situation, it seemed like the quickest way to get my point across to a lot of those people with absolute clarity (That would be the part about eliminating speculation.).

So I'll ask, you and everyone else to just respect my decision like I'm trying to respect what's good for the club and the event. I'll see you soon.

Sorry for deviating this thread. Now let me get it back to reporting on the workings of the commission and airport advisory. The next meeting is March 2nd.

I think some people think this whole " Bensen Days " thing is bigger and more important than it really is, or have lost track of what its supposed to be about.

When people don't feel comfortable with attending the event because a few people are making them feel uncomfortable about going, THATS wrong.

That's true Ron, it is wrong! However from my point of view, I too at various times chose not to attend because I wouldn't take well to having someone, who I know will try to impose his will and thoughts as being the "only" way. I don't mind discussing anything but if my opinion is ruled out as wrong and an a$$ wipin is what is needed to change my mind, it's time to stay away. They aren't worth it. I can fly anywhere.

This is all pretty petty to me. There are two sides to every story and it appears neither side has come clean with all the facts. Boycotting Bensen Days over this local matter is a WIN for the presumed advisory while hurting the Main Event so cherished. It's childish and foolish. The golden rule to happiness is simply don't take things you have no control over too damn serious. You want to protest something then protest what the American government is doing to destroy our rights while supporting a culture which aims to kill us. GROW UP..... and show up at Bensen Days.

Hope I don't cross the polite political lines drawn for posting on RF, but I just heard on the morning news radio that a naturalized citizen (not born in USA) married a Pakastani man. (Not sure if she ever met him in person or not, it wasn't reported.) When they applied for his visa it was turned down by the USA Consulate on grounds that he was involved in known terrorist activity. That is a ruling that cannot be challenged. The NEWS on this is that somehow they are challenging the exclusion on grounds that they don't think the USA government has a right to tell you who you can marry.

Someone call the OMG police. Sure, go ahead and marry who you want! But that doesn't necessarily mean you can import your Match.com ISIS spouse into Houston!

I'm going to boycott Bensen Days because I can't bring my terrorist spouse into the USA. THAT'LL show em! Stupid government, always meddlin in my private affairs...

OK, that was my fun for the day. I'm planning on showing up, with the rest of the Georgia mafia (for protection, hehee).

Gabor has been working hard on helping us design our new Peach State logo, and I have been giving him a terrible dose of ribbing. Now I have to face him in person now...haha! Those bear hugs he gives always squeeze the air out of my lungs.

Um...bottom line: NO MATTER WHAT, WHO, WHERE, WHEN>>> dude you are still a local and I really expect you there when I show up. When we come from so far away to attend these things, we expect to see our local buddies, our various not-so-buddy-but-it's-Bensen-Days-and-time-to-set-that-all-aside-and-have-fun, laugh, forget, chat until we are so hoarse we can hardly speak when we return home.

These events are good for healing, and good for the soul. We're all just a bunch of grumpy old men, and we aren't getting any younger.

Be there, or be square.

Does that help? OR make it worse? I can't tell anymore.

Well, it looks like I’ve misjudged human nature.

Honestly guys, I really expected more of a “I might disagree but I’ll respect you for keeping to your principles” kind of response (privately – not here). And I’ll give credit where credit is due. Gabor, you were right again. Despite my very clear requests to refrain from responding here on the forum, people just can’t leave it alone. So, I’m going to put a stop to it.

But, I will take the opportunity to say thank you to those of you, supportive or not, who did respect my wishes. If you felt the need, you contacted me privately. I personally don’t have the need to discuss any of this any further. But, as I said before, if you still have questions, I don’t mind discussing it with you at all. Just do it the right way.

Ron, in response to:

“When people don't feel comfortable with attending the event because a few people are making them feel uncomfortable about going, THATS wrong.”

Now you, my friend, have not been paying attention and have grossly misjudged me.

This forum provides a way to quickly and easily disseminate information to some of the Wauchula gyro guys that we don’t see every week or every month. And all of us care about what’s going on inside the city commission and the possible new airport advisory board etc.

Now, if I see one more post about me or my decision on this thread, I’m going to ask Mike to delete the whole thread. And that would eliminate the ability to easily provide news from the city to many who have an interest.

See you early birds soon,

Rick, bottom line is your a grown up adult man. You didn't have to, and don't have to come on this forum and give any explanation to why you are not going to attend. You simply just don't go. If your missed, people might call you or email and ask where are you, or when your coming... Putting it up here on the forum ahead of time is going to raise questions and discussion, good or bad.

Now i don't know why your not going. Its none of my business really. I just guess there has to be a personality conflict for you to not go. And seems either silly, childish, or unfair that you can't or won't attend the biggest gyro fly-in that just so happens to be based on your own home airport.

It was one thing for me to not go due to all the grief I got from Steve and Jim, I had 1400 miles of driving to do to get there, time off work, lots of money spent on camping gas and food and registration etc.... If Bensen Days was in my back yard, no F'ing way I would miss it.

Thats my two cents.

At Rick's request I am closing this thread.

He said he won't attend, so there's no reason to keep after him about it.
If he shows, he shows. If not, maybe next time.
Give him a break.
