Locally we are constructing a coaxial Heli, driven by a Chevy LS V8 reduced to 500 shaft Hp, it has a 45kv electric motor to assist with autorotation in the event of an issue enabling 5 minutes of flight time. ( that is a lifetime in a Heli pilot’s language to do an emergency landing)
Projected models suggest 170knts cruise 6 hours of endurance 5 up.
I was skeptic as one is when it comes to helicopters, I was at the facility and had in depth talks with the engineers who know more than I ever will ( about engineering) Fortunately I held my own when it came to knowledge on how they fly
I was there in November 2022, and at the same time while I was there with them questioning the the choice of prime mover it was shown to me the new Airbus H120 is flying with a naturally aspirated V8. Similar looking to the AS350 /H125 ..I have the write up on my drive and can email it if you cannot find it on google
Sadly non of us are good looking or have any women chasing after us, as always I cannot divulge to much about R&D I will add that a number of the now retrenched engineers who come from Denel (Rooivalk) Helicopter team are involved, unlike some of the gyro dreamers who post CGI ( think The new Arrow copter from Robin Grant, Pal V) I post pics and can post pics of me with it …this is happening gents, interesting times ahead as well as fun times coming to fly it
The key motivation behind the project is to build a fast sexy Helicopter that is safe without the use of a complex power robbing tail drive set up.
They are talking affordable and easy to fly …..as for Jayson Hill well he is still operating in CGI
