The biggest of the "minors" .....
The biggest of the "minors" .....
Anahuac has graduated into the "must go-to fly in" after the 2 majors of Bensen Days / Mentone ..... ROTR's has got quite a following in recent years and had a smaller attendance this year .... but still greatly enjoyable! Wrens & Barry days seem to have stimulated a strong attendance in the last couple of years - for their region! Of course there is the venerable Brock Freedom fly-in in the far south-west .... although with the gritty -windy conditions on the desert lake bed ... those with nice new-gen gyros will think long & hard about exposing their pretty machines to all that windy dirt! :sorry: :noidea:
At the rate that new club @ Mankato is growing & active in their community ... I imagine they will throw a party for the northerners ...pretty soon! :yo:
Anahuac absolutely ROCKED this year!! .... great cooked lunches thanks to hard working Keith.... Lovely awards this year ...all their flying & building projects out on display ... a good number of visiting gyros both flown-in & trailered!
Thank-you to all the Lonestar Rotorcraft members ... some who although local, ... still do a lot of traveling running & supporting the event.
We had big expectations for this year & were not disappointed ... next year we look to improve facilities .... a hangar bathroom & 30amp power hook-ups for the visiting RV's /campers! :whoo:
Even though we arrived well early - on Tuesday .. the week just flew & it was Saturday eve wrap-up dinner & awards presentation ... all too soon!
Wednesday was so very relaxing ... enjoying the social life with the other early arrivals & leisurely setting up camp & prepping gyro! Thursday was club-set-up day & the flying was starting to get serious! Friday and Saturday were flat out busy with visitors & demo's. There was talk of doing some fun group crosscountries ..... which I loved participating in last year ... but we did not want to gut the event on the two peak days ...buy taking away a large group of flying gyros for a couple of hours!
We really need a dedicated early-bird day ...JUST for the XC jaunts - lunch fly-outs!
Right now we are @ Taylor airport ... unloaded again ...and Jim is getting some great instruction time with Dayton! He had a couple of lessons @ Anahuac - with Greg Spicola & Dayton ... but the crosswinds & gusts on the last days did not make for an enjoyable learning environment!
I bet he is having a blast today ... it's a perfect morning here ... solid air & perfect wind! ( I got to do two patterns earlier - to checkout the machine after the road trip over)
