Alert on used RAF 2000 for sale — N122LH

You did not experience the other stuff which got him thrown off I think. You are correct n this particular issue
You are right. It was not my experience. Thank you for the grace.

It is an interesting point that two people can read the same posts and come up with completely different conclusions. I read a bunch of Kolibri's posts (well after they were written) and believe he provided well thought out points of view. I never got the impression that he thought he was talking to "peasants." The green ink was helpful when I wanted to scroll through to find Kolibri's responses quickly. They stood out. The warning above about the RAF seller was beneficial to anyone looking to buy an RAF. It's obviously just my opinion. We all experience things differently.
Notice I never faulted his RAF improvements and advice ... he was quite good in that regard.

It was his frictional personality that got out of hand , and like Fara said , many of them got deleted by moderators .... some of his comments were absolutely slanderous to certain well respected persons here.

And it was like he was out to destroy Doffin F. who trained him and sold him his RAF .... fair enough for his legitimate complaints in that deal .... but he went way beyond that and hundreds of times used D.F.'s full name .... probably with the intent that Google would prioritize it in search engines .... yet he himself hid his identity behind a fake avatar.

Some of his self-contradictions were strange ..... claimed to be an accomplished researcher and lectured everybody to do research on any gyro they were thinking of buying .... fine , good advice .... yet he himself did no research when he bought his RAF .... then the fuel tank issue .... his RAF would seep fuel at a seam if the tank was full .... he ranted and raved and trashed the manufacturer for the design .... fuel in a cockpit is never a good idea ... we would all agree with that ..... but the next week he did a cross-country with two plastic pails of gas strapped to the passenger seat.

Obviously, I can't read the deleted posts and never experienced the whack-a-doodle posts. Sounds like I missed out on some interesting moments!

You did...
And I'm not going to add what *I* think, because I don't want Todd to suspend me again, the next time he decides to turn up here, but I am sure there are some folks that would be very happy to have all of Kolibri old posts deleted, so they don't have to think about him anymore, and get depressed all over again.

Imagine the incredible power one man has!
With several small well placed presses of buttons he can literally make other grown men 1000's of miles away depressed!
I'm just being sardonic though....

It's just hard to believe people can be so aggrieved that they,re as angry as they seemed to be.

Lol. Yeah because in person that one man would get decked and would never say those things to begin with. So yeah a bully and a racist bigot or people like that, their power grows hiding behind fake names and in the safety of a keyboard. In fact they are cowards. But never doubt that what these people write hidden is actually what they truly think. You get the “real” person from a fake avatar. Ironic.
This forum really isn’t moderated as we can all see. And honestly it should not have to be. We are all adults and share a passion which such a small percentage of population does. That alone should be enough to make us civil and have empathy towards our flying brothers from around the globe. If we can’t even do that we don’t need to be on forums like this. Religion is an accident of geography and so is nationalism. None of us had a choice in that accident. But we do have a choice in what we do with each other specially sitting safe from a thousand miles away. That’s truly us.

The majority of you guys are all rookies... Gyro Forum wise....

How many of you were around on the old forum, the one that eventually shut down back in 2003 and this one was created to replace it? On that old forum we had some great fights and craziness, and tons more personalities, and characters. One of the best was Craig Wall...

Even this forum, in the early years was crazy.

Now a days, between all the other social media avenues ( Facebook, Instagram, TikToc ) there is less need for a forum... and I believe there is alot less people flying gyros these days, and for sure... There are WAY WAY WAY less people building scratch built or heavily modified gyros these days compared to in the past. It's hard to have fights and arguements when it seems the majority of the people now a days are just check writers and buy and fly gyros that are essentially factory built

That's me to a T. I love to fly, and took a lesson in the Cavalon. Had a great time. Got to looking around for information on gyros and found the forum. Kept reading, learning, and looking for my gyro. I don't have a shop to build in, so a "factory built" is my option. I'll write that fat check and see you all at the fly in events!

nothing wrong with that at all...

It was a whole different type of hobby when you were taking some raw materials into your shop and crafting a one of a kind gyro and power plant, and sharing it here for others to help or advise you.

In all honesty I miss those days

Me too, Ron. Build threads are rare things here now. I miss seeing others' handiwork.

Used to be, you would show up at Bensen Days or Mentone and see some cool innovative gyro, or power plant that someone put together and finally showed to the public. everything from Dick Degraws jump gyros to just some kind of cool converted engine package,etc...

Now it seems you show up at the events and the big surprises are who put the coolest paint job or fancy glass instrument suite in their pre fab euro gyro.

And thats fine! But I miss how it used to be

I remember, Ron. Back in the early '00s Tim Blackwell was doing an interesting new tractor design, along with developing a recoil prerotator. There were quite a few innovative projects on display both at Mentone and on the forum here. That spirit was part of the allure for me as a builder. We still see a few concepts being fleshed out occasionally, but not with the regularity we used to.

I lurked for a few years and finally joined back in 07.
There were some serious knock down drag outs, Raton comes to mind...
Hell the split got so bad it spawned a whole different forum that me and a few still frequent!
Remember the book length justification pists from DF that went on seemingly forever??.
Yeah this places sure has tamed down a bit.

Well, I have seen a trend with all the younger generation being less hands on with no interest to do anything with their hands other than use smart things connected to the internet. Rarely do I find any of the younger generation even interested in going flying. So I expect it while be less and less interested in flying in general yet alone building.

My son is a newly minted engineer and helped me with my kit build, but he has NO interest in flying.

Strange isn't it? For thousands of years man looked up to the heavens and dreamed of taking flight, and now man looks down at his smartphone and tries not to bump into things while walking.
If the internet went away tomorrow. we would ALL be MUCH better off in one generation.
