Hi Guys:
We have been asked to help resell 3 used open cockpit AR-1's with 912ULS engine.

1) This one has to be rebuilt and we have bought it from the owner in order to fix it at the factory. It was in a rotor blade flap and its tail was chopped off. Engine has around 280 hours on it. We will fix it and offer 6 months or 50 hours extended warranty on it with brand new rotors, re-assembled rotor-head, new prop and engine checked by Rotax certified tech for prop strike and new tail. It will be available for pickup in 3 months and asking price is $52k. The owner is getting out of flying. 2018 model, has radio, transponder, dual controls, day VFR instruments and Nav/Position/Strone LED lights. To reserve this one we will require a deposit.

2) Another Rotax 912ULS powered machine with 79 hours only and was bought for a flight school but their gyroplane program never took shape, so it is available. Day VFR plus radio, transponder, dual controls. Asking $64k. No extended warranty

3) A third one has 500 hours on engine (912ULS) and 300 hours on the frame and rotors. Radio, transponder, dual controls. The owner has passed away. Asking price $49k.No extended warranty.

Hi Abid,
Please forgive what may be a foolish question.
What type AWC do these aircraft have?

Experimental Amateur Buit (EAB)

I think that's a totally legit question. I spoke to one owner over the phone (he lives in a neighboring state and called me to chat about gyros) who revealed that the AWC of his recently purchased gyro was Experimental Exhibition. He seemed blissfully unaware of the restrictions placed upon this type of cert. It seems the company that sold it to him just billed it as "ready to fly!"

There is not that much restriction on Experimental Exhibition. One of our club members has it for a 2 seat military jet trainer. Each year he emails the local FAA a copy of all the EAA fly-ins he might attend. Since you are allowed to fly for competency and refresher flights. You can pretty much fly when ever you want. When he goes to another airport he puts a sign on the aircraft showing all its specifications. Or exhibiting the aircraft where ever he lands,

There is usually a geographic radius restriction for your proficiency flying, larger for fast aircraft and smaller for slow ones, but commonly 300 nm.

Many factory built sailplanes imported from Germany (certifed there but not here) are operated under those rules. Because they are commonly used in glider contests, they qualify for inclusion for 'racing".

Any "exhibition" needs to be in your annual program letter.

Why would you ever buy an aircraft in Experimental Exhibition when you can buy an EAB and not deal with all the FAA hassles and restrictions? Guess some enjoy pain…

The experimental exhibition requirements are not that big of a deal.

I don't see any reason why it was certified Experimental Exhibition? I imported and certified a Ukrainian L-39 military jet,
Experimental Exhibition was the only option. There were several restrictions including take off and land at my home base only.
Because the aircraft would do 500mph I was given a 500 mile radius to fly in for profiecency . I could ferry it to an airshow or for scheduled
maintenance. To fly xcountry for any other reason you would be forced to be dishonest about maintenance destinations. I had to fax a
flight plan to the FAA 24 hrs in advance of every proposed flight. Not that big a deal?

Hi All
Just to be clear. None of these or any other AR-1 gyroplanes are Experimental Exhibition
They are all Experimental Amateur Built
The Exhibition thing is a tangent in the thread

I had opportunity to buy a nice clipped wing Cub until I found out it was experimental Exhibition and the restrictions make it worthless for me. I just like to jump in and fly, Who wants to deal with the faa everytime you fly? I agree bell it’s a pain in the butt… ultra cruiser must be selling one. :-)

I have an experimental exhibition. My requirement is to send a letter 1x per year to list where I might be "exhibiting". Everything else can be "training" or "transition" flights. I have no distance restriction. Super easy.

Abid, are all of these located at your facility in Z-hills and have you inspected them to some degree, or are you just sharing the word on the second two? Thanks.

One is on it's way. One is in Florida and have seen it. We will do a fresh annual on it before delivery. The third is in NY but it will also come through the factory

Looks like one of these is gone already (#2)
For #1. I have decided to just take the engine, avionics, wiring and wheels/brakes and do a completely new kit with all the updates and new serial number. The cost will be $56k

It belonged to a customer that passed away. His widow was interested in selling it. I offered to help but honestly they have not sent me anything. So maybe she already found someone who bought it as is

Thanks Abid. I was wondering if this person is anywhere near upstate NY,, since my family still lives there,,
Any possibility of getting more info on this? i would love to find out if I actually could go look at it,,
thanks,
