25' Skywheels (white) Very Nice w/ only minor scuff on one blade. I am getting ready to CUT these to 23'.
I don't want to. I will sell them for $2750 or trade for a 23' Skywheels! I do not weigh enough for the 25' blades.
They are almost perfect, but they do fly perfectly. Call soon or they will soon become 23'. Jack 414-303-2957

bump. I bumped this because the owner is planning to trim them down to 23' and use them. I hate to see a rare set of 25' rotors go away like this. I bought these new at Jim McCutchen's shop when I visited him. They were never mounted on an aircraft.

He should at least foam the opening.....

I have never seen anyone fly open rotors before, but he say's they fly great. I get a picture of the innards.
He could name it "Baby Huey"

Dad, Davie, and Chuck did it on a set of Hughes Blades and it for sure sounded different. Not sure I would do that with SkyWheels. Their construction being the way it is I would worry about the wind peeling the skins off the spar.

Chuck Beaty did some calculations on the power wasted by centrifugal pumping when blade tips were left open. His numbers said the losses were significant. Not all designers agreed.

On a related note, Bensen wood blades had nose weights with a hollow space between the lead weight (ahead of the leading edge) and the blade itself. They made a very weird chirping whistle.

I think both ends of the blade would need to be open for pumping to occur, but the hollow tip should certainly create some odd vortices and noise.
Maybe a harmonic pulse at certain RPMs?
