Totally agree. I remember a concept of a "flying submarine". The epiphany of combining 2 things that do not fit together (light and heavy).Sometimes "crossing" two devices in an attempt to make a more versatile hybrid just doesn't work.
You can grind a screwdriver flat onto the end of one handle of your pliers, but it makes a poor screwdriver.
Surface vehicle - aerial vehicle hybrids have never worked well, in either one medium or the other. That's simply because what makes a good aircraft -- lightness, a fairly high CG, narrow frontal area, long-span airfoils -- makes a lousy car or boat.
I loved Tom Swift's Diving Seacopter as a kid, but what an unworkable idea in fact.
