I'm just repeating what two different have said they've run into with glitches in the process and the guidance received from different FSDOs about filling in their information on the form has varied between them. I have not had the joy of dealing with that process yet.

It is. And every FSDO seems to be very picky about how it's filled out, and they're not all on the same page about those details.

I've always treated discovery flights like an introductory lesson and logged it as such so they always count toward a rating.

You will need the gyroplane knowledge test. The resources you've chosen should fit the bill in preparing for it.

I guess that's a possibility, but I even bought a second TA50 and had exactly the same problem. We did experiment with putting it on a larger flat piece of aluminum away from the gyro and it actually connect more reliably there. Not sure why that would make a difference. But it's interesting...

I sent a quick note to the inspector at my local FSDO who worked with me to get my Repairman Certificate. He followed up immediately and sent this response a few minutes ago:
