    Engine out causing fatality?

I can’t recall reading about any engine out that was the direct cause of a fatality in a gyroplane. So I was wondering if a quite engine was known to cause a fatile crash. I believe that engine outs result in many fixed wing fatalities, due to the relatively high landing speeds. Would anyone...

    ChopperTown

This year at Sun N Fun, the LSA mall and, the small rotorcraft (including Gyroplanes) will be moved to an improved Paradise City. The Paradise City runway has been extended and is only to be closed when the jets or war-birds are flying. This will give much more exposure to the gyroplanes that...

    Sun n fun

Looking forward to an improved Paradise City this year! A longer, flatter runway with improved approaches, and combining the ultralight and LSA areas. The gyroplanes will be in this area as well. Chopper Town will be for larger helicopters and sightseeing rides only. The paradise runway will...

De-pitching rotor without a collective control.

What can anyone tell me about this rotor hub bar? It looks like it would de-pitch the blades when the prerotator was engaged. How successful was it? Did centrifugal force overcome the de-pitching before it reached full RPM?

    Paddy's War

The French President is sitting in his office when his telephone rings. ' Hallo, Mr. Sarkozy!' a heavily accented voice said. 'This is Paddy down at the Harp Pub in County Clare , Ireland. I am ringing to inform you that we are officially declaring war on you! We voted to reject the Lisbon...

Can someone tell me the story of this hub bar?

Can someone tell me the story of this hub bar? It is obviously designed to de pitch during prorogation, and perhaps swing forward to over pitch upon the release of the prerotator. This might give it a hop off takeoff capability. I doubt it would really jump. Because I haven’t seen any more...

Gyro fatalities the result of an engine out?

I’ve been wondering how many if any fatalities in gyroplanes are the results of an engine out. I have seen one engine out and have heard of many many more. However I know of none that resulted in a fatality. Does anyone know of any fatalities that were caused from a simple engine out?

    Thank god for theTwin Star

I’m a rather big guy and have a hard time getting a ride because of it. I have had a hard time finding a CFI that can put me in the front seat. I am so happy that Tim Oconnor gave me a ride in his Twin Star, and Gary Goldsberry said he would train me in his Twin Star.

Definition of LSA gyro rotor system?

Can anyone tell me the official definition of a LSA gyroplane as regards to the rotor system? I’m referring to EAB gyroplane that is legal to fly with a Light Sport Gyroplane pilot’s license. I have read that the rotor must be a two blade semi ridged with fixed pitch, but I can’t find anything...

    Shear strength? Single; double?

HI all According to what I have been able to find out, the shear strength of an AN or MIL spec. bolt is about 60% of the tinsel strength, in a single shear load. What happens in a double shear load? Because it has 2 shear points’ does it now have a shear strength of 120% of the tinsel strength?

Delta 3 & drag hinge questions

Would Delta 3 reduce or increase the drag hinges load? Wouldn’t the Conservation of energy principal dictate that when the blade flaps up, it must also accelerate?

    Ground looping

In a fixed wing airplane, is ground looping of a tail dragger more likely on landing or is there a risk on takeoff? I’m just wondering if the advantages of a try gear are some what negated by the very slow landing speed of an autogyro? thanks

    Rotor bearing question

A couple of stupid newbie questions. I have never seen what type bearing is used or how it is installed for the main rotor bearing. Is it an angular contact single rob ball? A double row ball? I know it isn't a Timken because there isn't enough room for the required 2 bearings. In...
