Jean Claude, that is a most-confusing chart to me. Would you define Nm, Um, Cm, Pm, and i(A) please? Brian

AMEN !!! I do NOT want our system of 'freedom to aviate' to become that of Britain and the EU. It is incumbent upon all gyroplane builders/flyers (all pilots, in general) to maintain this RESPONSIBILITY to build/fly safely lest we be overburdened with European restrictions ! Brian

Pitch Control Benefits of Elevators for Autogyros in Low-Speed Forward Flight

Chuck, Let me start the chapter outline (you fill in the details !): 1. Early history of the gyroplane (maybe done before, but with your insight) 2. The Bensen revolution (he resurrects the gyroplane, provide some good/bad opinion) and it divergence from helicopters 3. How does the Gyroplane...

Pitch Control Benefits of Elevators for Autogyros in Low-Speed Forward Flight

Chuck !!!!!!!! Will you PLEASE author a book with all of your stored-up gyroplane knowledge !!!! Please? Brian

Gyro Technic website is now up.

Excellent ! That website was a long time coming, but it is chock full of information NOW ! One thing is missing; I had written to ask about using a 912, but I see no mention of that being an option. Perhaps they are too busy to have tried that yet, but a 912 with a bit more fuel carrying...

Our next open source project = Jump-takeoff

John, attached is my version of your project description form. Slightly re-worded to allow a bit broader solution spectrum. Brian

Our next open source project = Jump-takeoff

John, I agree with dinoa; I think the initial pitch would be more and decay to 3 degrees. 0 degrees-to X degrees-and slowly decay the rotor pitch to normal flight pitch (approx 3 or 4 degrees). Maybe X is 6 or 7 degrees, but that is something that s/b determined in the study, too, along with...

What about an open source project for a G impact self leveling landing gear?

What about a jump take-off rotorhead (automatically adjusts from flat pitch-to-jump pitch-to-flight pitch) to go with your big electric motor(s) pre-spinner? Brian

    Hot running 2.5 engine

Dunc, pulling a vacuum WITHOUT flow is only reducing the pressure, NO FLOW of liquid. Seal the vacuum hose against the reservoir so that it does not suck air in. Similar to opening the top of a beer or carbonated beverage; the pressure (in the can) is reduced and the dissolved CO2 comes out of...

    Hot running 2.5 engine

On my Mini Cooper, the trick to bleeding air out of the coolant system is to put the shop vac on the reservoir spout and run the engine up to operating temperature (thermostat opening). Pulling a vacuum helps to remove trapped air in the system. Works pretty well. Brian

Pitch Control Benefits of Elevators for Autogyros in Low-Speed Forward Flight

Doug, would you diagram "NON-centered flap hinges", please? I'm getting a mental image of a plate/bar rigidly attached to the rotorhead with hinged blades outboard of the bar. Not sure how 'teetering' or 'underslung' would work thusly, so I'm missing something. Pictures? Brian

Chris, how much are you seeking for the "30ft sportcopter rotor ...as new ( under 10 hours balancing / hopping!)" Rotorhead available, too? Is the Subaru engine available (more info?), too? Brian

    Carter Copter

Roger, I think the 'partially-powered' rotor is the key to higher speeds as it reduces the main drag source. Brian

Pitch Control Benefits of Elevators for Autogyros in Low-Speed Forward Flight

This is an interesting topic. If I understand the premise, the elevator is being used as the primary pitch control, not the rotor? I agree with Doug's assessment, but I'd also like to hear some discussion on using elevator position as a TRIM control (rotor used for primary pitch, elevator...
