  • Thank you for that resource. I believe that the most recent change he made will finally properly vent the gearbox. Another part of the drive system failed on another aircraft. He has redesigned and sent for free a replacement part. I hope to have that installed this weekend then its just a matter of new blades.

    Hi Joe..
Be safe amidst IRMA. Expecting your weekend will be disrupted.

Otherwise, that is very encouraging news. A couple of days ago, I had a very pleasant call to Neil Hintz in Hamilton, NZ. He is the Autoflight Subaru conversion guy. He has a "universal" gearbox. Surely you already know about him. Ernie Boyette advised me that he does not do any conversions now, Subaru or otherwise. Only Rotax, just like Abid from Silverlight.

I cannot consider the Rotax engine for Guam as A&P knowledge here is zero for the Rotax. I owned an Earthstar Odyssey LSA for a while and on one occasion had to wait months for an A&P to be willing to give me some time. Never got the airplane flying. Sold it for a modest loss, luckily.

Guam wind conditions and field conditions are peaking my interest in Gyroplanes. But not with a Rotax. Hence my interest in the Viking. Seems I can also consider the Subaru from Neil Hintz's Autoflight. I am a year or so away from this decision. Hopefully your success will show the Viking as a solid engine choice. Wishing you every success.

Glad to have this encouraging news.

    Best regards.
