  • After further discussion with Jake, and after reading several antenna discussions on this forum, I have decided to go with a dipole antenna, and mount it to the undercarriage (main wheel brace) on the opposite side of my radio mount. If anyone has other suggestions about where to mount the antenna,...

So I had a couple of e-mail exchanges with Jade Hawkes of Flycom today. We discussed my purchasing the solo interface along with the adapter for GA to single plug. But then he sent a very interesting e-mail in which he said the following:

    "Hello Russ,

    We have run some...

Thanks Scott. I came to the same conclusion and sent Jade Hawkes (of Flycom) an e-mail yesterday asking him if he thought the very same adapter and patch cord would not sort my problem....

    Hi Scott,

yeah I was new to the whole open cockpit flying thing and I guess I should have sought some advice on helmet and radio choices before I made my purchases. As is often the case, lack of knowledge leads to expensive mistakes (or much worse when flying).

Well, thanks for the input, Abid. When I bought the Icom A6 radio and Flycom helmet last year, I thought I was getting a good basic radio that would serve my needs flying around my local airport. I thought the helmet was excellent for both comfort and sound isolation, though not inexpensive. When I...

Thanks Scott. I did hear from Jade Hawkes at Flycom. He asked that I run a test to verify that the tip of the smaller GA plug on the helmet did not connect with any other part of either plug. I checked with a circuit meter, and it does not. I sent him an e-mail this afternoon and will probably hear...

Yes, the loud high frequency tone occurs with the engine off or on. I have the Icom patch OPC-499 which came with the radio. The PTT I had came from Aircraft Spruce. I subsequently ordered a PTT from Flycom. This did not solve the problem. Yet both PTT switches together with the IC-A6 radio and patch...

Thanks Scott. Not sure when I will be back down there, probably late July. Did you ever have the same issue, a loud high
pitched tone whenever you pushed the PTT switch?

Continuation of previous post, accidentally hit the "post button":

some serious family health issues. Recently I have started taking lessons again and started to use my Flycom helmet with a PTT switch while practicing "balancing on the mains." Unfortunately, I find I...

    Flycom helmet issues.

Last year, after taking some lessons n a weight shift trike, during which I used a Flycom helmet, I decided that I wanted to get one for my gyrocopter flying. So I ordered one last year, since the British pound had Aden a nosedive after he Brexit vote. Anyway, as some of you know, I set aside my flying...

Thanks for all the great input, guys!

I got the wheels back on yesterday afternoon and was then able to roll the Dominator out of the hangar and work on the engine. I cranked it up to be sure the problem was still there and it was. So I fiddled with the entichenment levers to make sure...

OK, I get it. I have played with these levers recently as I was having some difficulty with starting the engine. So it is possible I did not fully close the "enrichener" on one cylinder. Oddly enough, as I recall the levers are actually labeled as "CHOKE", which reinforces the misconception....

OK, nice to meet another Russ.

l have temperature probes on both exhaust manifolds, if that is what you are referencing. I do not have a separate piece of equipment to manually check the exhaust temperatures.

I thought that I would check the chokes to make sure one was not...

Yes, Bing carbs. So are you suggesting that one cylinder is running very rich, and that this could account for the significant exhaust temp differences at higher RPMs?

To clarify, Dave's suggested tires are perfect and I ordered a pair this morning.

I simply meant I was not interested in saving a few $ by going with a lower rated tire from Amazon....

    Rotax 582 EGT numbers

Recently I have encountered an odd problem with the EGT readings on my EIS for my Rotax 582. The EGT numbers run close for both cylinders at low RPM, but then diverge widely at higher RPM (see pics below). I am assuming (hoping) this is a faulty probe issue, and am planning to switch the probes between...

Thanks Dave, these look like a very close match to what I am running on now. I do not want to reduce the max load, as this number could get high if I have a less than gentle set down in a landing.

    Replacement tires for Dominator single

So I am looking for some replacement tires for my single place Dominator. Currently I have 4.80/4.00-8 nylon tubeless, rated at a max load of 650 lbs. at 50 psi. They are designated as "not for highway use", and appear to be lawn equipment tires.

    The closest replacements I have...
