  • Consider asking Dayton Dabbs at Lone Star Magni Gyro, or Craig McPherson at Blue Skies PPC, they both do a lot of instruction out of their gyros at different locations in Texas. Ray

I was going to ask Craig about who he uses, haven't met or spoken with Dayton at all I might reach out to him and pick his brain a bit as well. Thanks for the suggestions
Ben, I trained with Dayton Dabbs at Lone Star Magni Gyro in Taylor Texas near Austin. I was able to solo in his gyro. They also have a club with joint ownership by 16? guys that allows for training and soloing by the club members. He can explain the particulars of his LODA. I'm not sure what progress you've made in your training, but you may want to talk to Dayton who is a gyro CFI and a DPE. Ray

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll look into that
I just spent some time on Barnstormers looking at used gyros, and things are about as I mentioned in my prior note, with the RAF being the most price competitive. I have only flown in the Magni M16 and M24, and the AutoGyro Calidus, so my experience is limited.
So as to avoid a long discussion about this in the forum I put this in a PM. Tango gyros have the Yamaha engine option. The Tango 2 may be what you need. Once built, with a LODA, you can instruct. Dayton Dabbs at Lone Star Magni Gyros is a gyro DPE, and he has been through the LODA process many times with the FAA. The Sparrow Hawk and the RAF both use the Subaru engine and are relatively cheap, but I am told the RAF is much more stable with the later optional horizontal stabilizer/tail found on the Sparrow Hawk. As far as I can tell, a Magni or AutoGyro will run $70K or more lightly used, but a Tango 2 will be $50Kish new, and an RAF or Sparrow Hawk 2 will be in the $25-30K range used. Experienced instructors all have ideas about stability and reliability so talk to some. Good luck. I fly an AutoGyro Calidus with the 912 out of Boerne TX near San Antonio. Ray
