  • Hi Jacob,

how are you doing and how is your project? Great you're back in town...;-)

    Cheers,
    Juergen
Unfortunately I am quite a bit away from turning out any hardware. My idea is a bit special so I have to come up with a design of my own and I feel I need a very thorough understanding of existing theory for this. That is why I programmed a numerical gyro simulation program. That one has made considerable progress though and I hope to be able to release it to the public sometime this year.
Do you already have an idea where in Germany you will be deployed and how long you will stay? We could try to meet and talk gyros over a nice beer....;-)

PS: I am afraid I have not quite understood the message system, that's why I post to your user profile as well....
Hi Jacob, long time no hear....;-)
Apart from the usual problem that progress on my gyro program is much slower than I'd like it to be I am doing very well. I had tried to contact you several times and when that failed I was worried as to what might have happened. Great to hear from you! Is your project now getting under way again, Jacob?
    Hi Jake,

I'm a bit worried since you didn't reply to my message. Please be so kind as to drop me a line.

    Cheers,

    Juergen
    Hallo Jake,

    Juergen
    By Jove, Jacob,
that's what I call an ambitious project. The FW186 is a good looking aircraft, unfortunately (as you probably know) her flight characteristics were so poor that FW abandoned her so you might want to go for the Kellet..;-). Both had, as far as I know, a fuselage from welded steel tubes so you must have quite a well equipped shop. Do you think there is half a chance to get hold of the drawings for a Kellet?
Anyway I keep my fingers crossed for you and look forward to hearing of your progress in the forum.

    Cheers,

    Juergen
PS: where did you pick up all that German?
    Jacob,

tractor gyros have unfortunately gone a bit out of fashion. If I were to build one I'd use the fuselage of a Pietenpol Aircamper,
replace the wing by a two bladed rotor and add small wings where the undercarriage is now like in the Pitcairn PCA-2 and
PA-8 gyros (mainly to widen the wheel base). The new wings would be guyed to the attachment points of the original main
wing struts. (is guyed the correct term even tough these parts would be loaded in compression?)

    What are your basic ideas?

    Cheers,

    Juergen
    Jacob,
great to hear you're back! I had tried to contact you (see below) and was a bit worried when you didn't reply. I have been busy writing my rotary wing program and have made some progress. I hope that you can now start on your gyro.
    Take care,
    Juergen
(PS: I probably posted this message twice now, struggling a bit with the message system...;-)
