Gyro is sold.

Raising funds for a new project, I'll post it here first so all my forum friends can have first crack at it.

This gyro won Best Single Place Gyroplane at Mentone this year.

Here are the specifics:

Rotax 503 DC Electronic Ignition ~ 50 hrs since new
3 Blade, 60" Ivo-Prop
23' Dragon Wings Rotor Blades, brand new last year
7.2 Gallon Calumetair seat tank
Contols are custom machined and every bearing surface has a roller bearing
Air Command rotor head
Wunderlich prerotator, capable of getting the blades to 180+ RPM
Wunderlich rotor brake
Front scrub brake
Instruments are a Hall Airspeed Indicator, bicycle speedo rotor tach and Tiny Tach
Custom foam/fiberglass tail
Adjustable friction throttle quadrant

This is a READY TO FLY gyro, buy it now and you can fly before the snow hits. It has the typical wide Gyrobee gear, meaning that you'd really have to work hard to roll it over, honestly, I'm not sure you even could.

Check out the detail pictures here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jangievarnsen/sets/72157627604972750/

Asking $8,500.

PS: The pictures show a home made EIS next to the seat - it is a prototype that I'm still working the bugs out of, it and the ugly bundle of wires coming out of it and running up behind the seat stay with me. You keep the shelf to sit your radio, instruments, etc. on.

That thing has got to be less than 254 lbs ????

Very good deal... I have flown it and it is a great little machine. Very simple and fun to fly. Something to be said about a very simple and safe machine.

Simple, light and strong..... should make for a great gyro for someone starting out in the hobby of flying gyros!

Are there any details on the construction of the tail?
There is so little info on the Gyrobee plans for the tail feathers that any information on different Gyrobee tails would be good to have on the forum

Tom Milton built the tail years ago. He measured a Mooney tail and scaled it down to gyro size. The core is hot wire shaped foam, it is covered with fiberglass. The shaft out the bottom is sized so that you use a bicycle head bearing as the pivot - great method, has never loosened up. The horizontal stabilizer is .090" 6061-t6 sheet.

That's what I weigh and it flies me fine. I can comfortably cruise at 50 mph at 5700-5800 rpm. Red line is 6500, so that leaves a good margin for climb.

That would seem to be an extremely good deal Adam.

Just the price for components alone is pretty much that.

No wonder you liked the tail Tom. :)

Will it be available in the future?

I thought the gyro would be snapped up by now, especially with that legendary rudder.

This little package must be nothing but a blast! Clean as a whistle when I saw it last.
