I stumbled upon a neat little program called "MicroFlight" a few years ago when I was still a student. It isn't real sophisticated but I REALLY enjoyed just flying with it.... whether it was trying to land a cessna 172 on an aircraft carrier, trying to shoot down an F86, or deadsticking a Kellett gyro onto the roof of a barn.....
It actually taught me what I was doing wrong with my takeoffs. During training I would hit 45mph and yank the gyro off the ground. By observing myself taking off from behind the gyro, I finally "got" what my instructor was trying to tell me ...... when the gyro hits flying speed it will naturally just lift off from the ground, and it was crystal clear to me when I actually observed it.
You can download it from several different places .....

being the best. Download the demo program. It lets you fly for 5 minutes at a time, so you get a feel for the program. I think at the time I bought the program for $25 and then can upload lots of different aircraft, like a DC3, aerobatic planes, and a few different gyros.
Yeah, it's probably not 100% exactly like a gyro flies, but the rotor slows down if you nose too far up, for example, and it's fun.
To get the best benefit get a joystick for ANY simulator you use. Good luck!!!
