Back burning kerosene
Back burning kerosene
My work horse was chomping at the bit waiting for me to get back from Bensen Days.
Heres a video that took two attempts and 6 hours of uploading time. I was reminded why I dont post many videos!
Heres the video. I included the turbine startup. You can hear a clicking sound. That is high voltage arcing inside my burner can just waiting for the fuel to come in. I push that button first...then the starter button. A few seconds of winding up the turbine...and you can hear a whoommpppfff inside the burner can. The inferno is lit and now I shut the voltage off to the main fuel solenoid....and in comes the fuel through 6 lines into the burner can and the inferno really is getting serious now. The governor takes over around 45000 rpm. I then engage the rotors....checking all my gauges, idiot lights, and once the clutch light comes on showing full engagement...I roll the throttle up to flight rpm 61,500 rpm. Its soon hover time as you can see not much time elapses from startup to hover.
I then just flew around. There was a stiff northerly wind and I thought it would be a good day to hover with my nose pointed at that big oak tree while I did a 360 around it. On a calm day these are a piece of cake...but even with the wind I was happy with the tail rotor authority I had.
I then did a steep approach into a confined area....came to a hover and then hovered to the south end...and set down. Then I was set up for doing a max performance takeoff out of that confined hole.
I have more videos whenever I have time to upload them.
