Webber 750 engine

Tony,

I haven't been looking seriously for a while..... my current situation is trying desperately to make the final decision between a 2 place machine and a single place.

I will only have the time and finances to do a build once, and I would really like my wife and kids to be able to enjoy this sport with me... (after appropriate training and hours logged before taking them up with me, of course). I don't have many options for this route.... either a drop keel parsons or Air Command two place.... no-one else will sell a two place kit to a pilot with less than 100 hours or so. Since I have only 7 hours of training so far, I don't qualify.

If I can't convince the wife to be involved, then I am definitely going with the Aviomania G1sa..... this is the route where I would like the 75HP weber.

All of my plans were put on hold for a year, as last year's bonus did not come through at work. Hopefully this year will be better (will find out in February).

Thanks for asking..

GaryMac

Hi GaryMac

This could be good because it will allow time for the gear box to be tried out along with the cooling set ups and oil set ups and have some time on them

Tony

I have an email from John at Rotortec.... Date September 2010

"The 3.2.1 reduction we have is fort he Weber Engine and will get you 2500 RPM
Presantly we only have 2 reductions available and the cost is 1399.—Euro including
The Prop Flange and Torque Bolts Rotax Style. For more information feel free to ask.

John Steinbeck"

Unfortunately I have not recieved any recent correspondence despite all efforts to email and get an update. Their drive has a Rotax 101.6mm pattern and I am trying to get an update for them to custom make me a hub with an SAE2 pattern instead.

About $1850 USD

Just a subject:

Has anyone heard of reliability issues outside of the issues directly related to the wiring routes in the Polaris snowmobiles? I know about the oil in air filter issues they have with will not be an issue since I plan to route the oil tank relief to a separate catch tank or similar.

Do you know if Rotortec's redrive will work in a tractor configuration, or are us other guys still waiting. Lookig at other sites the snowmobile works fine with the speed sensor unplugged, I guess that is a common failure.

Well, I think Neil is working on a tractor model, with what few machining tools and experience I have I would be lucky to build a belt drive, although that might not be to bad of an idea for my application, I am looking for a 4 stroke for my Avid, and around here snowmobiles usually die from being driven without enough snow destroying everything but the engines. At least the polaris model has been around for a few years and they are starting to come down in price $5,000 at a local dealer for one with less than2,000 miles and lots of good used parts to resell. They will come down some more in the spring.

Neil is working on his gearbox... not sure if it is tractor or pusher.... depends on bearings, couplings, etc. on what type of forces it can handle...

Eric,
I have throught about the belt redrive as well. If you know what ratio you want to run, you could have a redrive made for less than the gearbox. The belt places the prop higher than the gear. It may prove to be lighter than the gearbox. There are plenty of belt drives to show that they work well. The redrive for the Challanger aircraft would be fairly easiy to adapt to the Weber. You might contact the Manuf and ask if they could build you one for more hp than what they offer.
Also you can order the pulleys for the gates belts. They have a design program on their web site and of course it states NOT for Aircraft USE.

Hi Eric

Neil's gear re-drive works push or pull

FYI...Everyone looking at the Weber...

From Martin Filfe @ Percision Sports

"If you consider something different than a new engine.... then why not go with a rebuilt unit with full 3 month warranty. I sell these on a regular basis to customers all over the world and they are very high quality rebuilds with new connecting rods, new pistons, new oil / water pump, valve job, new timing chain... bearings, gaskets and seals.... basically as good as new and built to high standards. They go for $3,800."

"The MoTeC ECU is much more expensive than the Walbro... but it is not in the same league and the resell value is second to none. A Motec ECU with the Weber adaptor loom is $2,950. If you are ever looking this, then you may want to consider I currently have a "killer" deal on a brand new M400 which was recently cancelled by a customer..... $2,650 (impossible to find lower anywhere!)."

what are the costs of the---" intake manifold, throttle bodies, fuel rail, injectors, water manifold, alternator, and ignition coils, plus all sensors. These will be needed regardless of what ECU system us used. The exhaust system will likely vary with the users application. Also if it is a turbo model this will have to be considered.

Tony

I have a separate email out to confirm that is turnkey cost of a rebuilt engine.... remember Martin priced me only $7000 for a brand new turnkey turbo engine.... so I believe that price is turnkey... but I am confirming

Thanks that will be very importamt.

anyone know what the Hp rating is for a "standard" Rotax prop flange. Was wondering if it was sufficient for up to 130 hp (like a Weber turbo)

Tony

Fuel lines,
The Weber has 5/16 inch fuel fittings with the clips on the end. Does anyone have a source for this fittings, I went to auto zone and and fund the I would like to keep these quick disconnects if possiible and I need the male parts to fab up a tank.
