I was notified a couple weeks ago that my position is being eliminated. This morning I sat through a conference call with the HR dept. discussing my options. I will still have a job (which I'm thankful for) but not sure where. It could be as close as Pensacola or as far away as Key West. If I go to the Pensacola area it will be a slight pay cut, I'll be living in my motor home at first and I'll be able to come home every weekend. If I go to Southern FL the commute back home would not be as often. I'll find out where I'm going in 2-3 weeks and I'll have to report to the new location Dec 20th. With the economy like it is I dread getting our home appraised. I fear we're like a lot of people and owe more than it's worth now. Selling it will be another obstacle. Not too many homes being purchased right now. Along with drastically changing our lives it will also greatly effect my gyro build. Right now I am still making plans to attend Bensen Days. I hope to see everyone there.

Tim,

Sorry to hear the bad news. It is a good thing, though, that you can move and stay employed. Quite a few people we know who have been out of work for a while still have no job in sight.

In March 09 I had the chance to relocate to Saginaw Michigan or be laid off with severance pay.
Not wanting to move, or try to go back and forth to ALA I took the lay off took 8 months to find a job pays half as much and I still drive 100 miles a day.

Tim do you still have that seat tank?

Mark, I am thankful I will still have a job.

Trez, I work for AT&T.

Ron, I'm only 48.

George, I sold the seat tank to Scott Lewis at Bensen Days. He also found a natural colored one there after he bought mine and was then trying to resell the one he bought from me. I don't know if he resold it. Send him a message and see if he still has it.

Tim,
Sorry to hear.....
You didn't ask but.....Given the choice, I would go to Pensy. Key West could get old real fast, unless you're a certain kind (ahem) of person.
Any chance you could sometimes fly between home and PNS?
Thunderboomers would make it deadly on some days in summer. But sometimes it would be great.
But whatever you choose I hope it all works out for you. I would stress that being without an income is a real life changer. Found that out when forced to retire from airline flying. Now, of course, they've changed the age 60 rule.
Best of luck and.....
See you at BDs!
Trez

Tim sorry to hear the bad news. Maybe things will get better a bit after this election. I wish I could pull some strings for you but times are tough for everyone. Best of luck my friend I am sending positive thoughts. I hope you find something good.

Tim,

Really sorry to hear that you face life changing things ahead with little ability to control the spin. I hope whatever lies ahead will turn out to be favoralbe for you and your family.

I was looking forward to flying with you and Bob when you got your machine done.

Maybe it will happen some day anyway.

Tommy

Tim, a couple things to consider.even though your house's value in dollars is less,so is the house your buying so things even out.A depressed market is an excellant time to upgrade anly because the spread between the two houses is less.Try to use this as a positive learning and networking experience.I've had a couple of setbacks in employment and a couple of years later when I look back, I'm way ahead.

Tim,

Sorry to hear of the upset to your life.

Remember though that clouds often have silver linings.

Rob

Tim- Sorry to hear of your change of employment. You are a very nice person and I feel things will workout for the better. Hang in there and I hope to see you at Bensen Days. We don't need to see your gyro, just hope to get to chat with you in person is more important. Stan

Tim
I know your the type of person that you will do what you got to do. I know you will make the best of it.
Go get am !!!

I'm really sorry to learn this. You are one of the the good guys for sure and we are all pulling for your success. Keep us informed and let us know if we can help in any way!

Hey Tim,
Cheer up at least you're not stuck at the beach washing dishes.
Things change for a reason. The reason might not be completely
apparent or open for option right now. It does suck being forced
to relocate, but a good job is a job to keep. It's been 8 years since
electronics test has been my job after 25 years in the industry.
Do you know anybody building circuit boards in America? No way
labor rates are way cheaper and environmental laws don't exist.
So it's the greed thing. Something might come up.
Hea ya never know. Good Luck
I still dream of making a pair of arches & no not McDonalds

I'm not sorry ..........

I'm not sorry ..........

I am not sorry for you Tim. Life is a bitch ..... and then we die.

Life is full of changes. This sounds like a great opportunity for flying to and from work each day. Something futurist predicted back in the 50's we would all have flying machines in our garages today; a few of us DO. Besides, YOU LIVE IN FLORIDA; dream capital of the world, or is that Hollywood? I work in residential construction in Pasco County, FL, business has stopped............. Rent your house or take a loss because housing market is not going to change for a long time.

Leading economic indicators, multiNational corporations, are not hiring. Instead, they are using all that reserve capital plus whatever they could syphon off the government stimulus package to buy up other companies. Seems to be a huge power grab rather than economic recovery. Florida leads the nation in bank failures, not a good sign.

I have learned to live on less, much much less.

South Florida is way hot in the summer. Northern Florida has seasons, of sorts. Today is cold in central Florida. :plane:

Hi Tim

Sorry to hear about your forced job situation, I worked for 11 years for AT&T from 1961 thru 1971 and intended to retire with them then had to quit because I got saddled with a back stabbing two faced ladder climbing SOB supervisor and had to quit or I was going to do some serious "reverse engineering " and he wasn't worth it. But life did have it's revenge, he later got pigeon holed into a job in charge of 38 women (can you imagine on any given day there would be at least one or more with PMS). knocked around on several other jobs for about 3 years (one of those is where I got my "limited " machine shop training which I now use so much) and finally got the oppertunity to take over a two way radio business (whit a lot of good advice from the previous owner) and owned this for about 25 years before retiring from it, having enjoyed all I could stand of the service work and trying to work on smd circut board layout. Some much for the bitiching, All worked out for the best because if I had stayed just 2 more years I would have benn in the same situation (forced move) as you are in. While I worked for AT&T I heard a lot of stories from the old timers about how back during the depression it was great to work for them as your job was really secure, not any more, today big corporations cut slice and dice people like so much disposable assets. My only advice would be to look to your past experiences and hobbies (mine was ham radio, kind of a two way radio) and maybe get a clue for the future direction.

Tony

Tim,
I wish you the best! I think you will turn lemons into lemonade, no matter which way you go.
