I started to make some changes to one of my trailers. I did not want to have to call someone every time I loaded up or I need help. So I am going to put a small elect. winch on the trailer also I want to make it easy to remove if I am not using it.

I also wanted to make it so after I unloaded the gyro I could use some of the other pieces to reattach into a hoist to help put the blades on.

Anyone thought of something like that?

Or just a picture of your trailer! I have to take a few tomorrow and post.

Hi,
this was made from zink the holding bars are movable for the blades so you can move with the blades inplace also there is a winch on the front..(Manual) and the trailer splits at the back end to come down as a ramp!" hope this helps!

Picture 1, Spare tire and electric winch mounted (winch for loading/unloading and rotor hoist)
Picture 2, Rotor hoist in place (I have a pulley that attaches to the cross bar that the cable from the winch will ran through)
Picture 3, Nose wheel ramp (this lets all four wheels sit solid so there is no rocking)
Picture 4, Rotor hoist removed
Picture 5, the rotor hoist is laid into place, does not get in the way
Picture 6, Included some steps on each side of the wheel wells

I have not used the electric winch yet so I don't know how well it will work. I have been told that a hand crank winch would probably be easier for rotor mounting because it gives you more control.

you might consider a boat trailer as your base! I dunno what your wheel base is but I trailered my airplane on a friends after an engine out in a pasture!

I have seen several boat trailers modified for gyros and they seem to be the right fit. Probably is a good idea for a light weight single place and boat trailers can generally be found at a reasonable prices.

Well here is Resasi trailer

I will post mine tomorrow! I have 2 golf cart trailers and I only use one that I built in 1998 the older one I bought in 1987 and have rebuilt it once in that time frame. But it has seen the U.S. it has well over 400.000.0 miles on it. it has went through 4 trucks.....

Mike484 : If you use a hand crank how can you use it by your self?

Mike,I have one of those harbor freight winches on my trailer. I got some 4 conductor wire and rewired the remote cable to a length of 20' . I use it for loading my harley and can sit on the bike and walk it right up with the winch.

if you lenghten your remote cable, you should be able to operate it while on a ladder or what ever to install your blades. they are geared real slow,so you have pretty good control of it.

I plan to make a hoist so I can take the blades on and off the Commuter Jr. for travel.

Presently working on the pipe blade box, and a set-up to help put the blades on. Considering a fold up tripod and pulley system that will either mount on the trailer, or can be set up over the gyro.

I bought a small ATV wench from to pull my bird up the ramps as I am sitting on it too. then I can move the wench over to the lift arm and use it to install my rotors also. I was going to build the wench to sit on a platform with a pin I could pull out to remove / move it to work somewhere else. :tape:

When I bought the 2000 ATV wench it was $79.99 I believe. Now they want $119.00

Been raining all day no time for pic's

I have a blade box that fits in between the wheels of the Gyro. It also acts as a bumper.

edypaul : I think you have a well thought out trailer there. Care to share more pictures of it?

Remember this is a golf cart trailer. I I will build a Gyro trailer within the next year. But I did need something to move my gyro around. It was raining still when I took the pictures so I could not get a good shot.

A single place gyro is light enough to pull up onto a trailer without a winch. Some custom purpose-built trailers can't be used for anything else other than hauling a gyro. Just purchase a utility trailer and you'll have room for your gyro, scooter or 4-wheeler and everything else you need to haul to a flyin. You can also use the utility trailer for a lot of other things when you're not hauling a gyro.

For a heavier 2-place gyro I'd recommend using a dual axle trailer. The ride is soooo much smoother for the gyro than with a single axle trailer. After borrowing a friend's dual axle trailer for Bensen Day this year I'm tempted to upgrade to one myself.

Timchick :
That is great but my wheel span is 82" some of those trailers will not work for me. I hate the ones with the tail gates or should I say my truck does. (DRAG)

You can easily modify a utility trailer to fit your gyro. Simply widen the rear behind the wheel fenders to fit your gyro. I think Scott Essex modified Phil Ruffin's trailer like that. When your gyro is loaded on the trailer the front of the wheels can but up against the back of the fenders. You can also purchase trailers without the rear gate.

When your gyro is loaded on the trailer the front of the wheels can but up against the back of the fenders...

Just make sure you can still get about 10% of the trailer's total weight on the tongue for stability. Many gyro/trailer combinations would need to have the gyro's main gear ahead of the trailer's axle to achieve proper tongue loading, or ballast such as tool boxes, fuel, etc. near the front of the trailer to make it work.

While at Mentone, I saw Doug Smith's trailer.
I think he and his friends had made a video of how it worked.

He has a padded clamp system for holding the blades for short trips and a piece of cable tray overhead that allowed for super easy rotor mount/unmount and transport on long trips. It was very gyro-centric but just about the best setup I have seen for storing ones machine at home.

I got these pictures of the "critical pieces". I had planned to make my own video when he loaded out, but got busy.
