Worlds Scariest runways

Makes you wonder who said: "Hey, lets put a runway here!"

I bet carrier pilots would laugh at those.

There are several in the Bahamas that are exactly as long as the island is wide. You either make the short field landing or begin your scuba trip early. Some have the added feature of having to make a low pass first to clear the goats.

Two of my favorite in the US are Pembroke Pines, Florida, for its giant antenna farms at each end of every runway and Roanoke, VA. I did a simple ILS approach in conditions into Roanoke once, and was fine with it until the next day when I actually saw where they sent me. Roanoke sits in the bottom of a "tea cup" of mountains with a slim crack to fly through for the approach. Better not to know, perhaps.

I'm sure there are others. The more I think about it, the more contenders I can remember.

Is GooseCreek on the list?

California’s Catalina Island is fun….drops off on both ends and runs down hill toward the ocean side. You would get a certificate for safely landing there.

Upper Captiva island in south west Fl. is from one side to the other. Had a job there once and the owner picked me up in a King air. He drug wheels in the water landing. Seemed like a carrier landing. Take off was some what better.
