Some Bensen Days shots

An old farts question Ron.

To begin with, why hotdog a too nosehigh touchdown?! Especially in another persons machine. Was it because of the CCCs?!

IMO your tailwheel location argument has no merit as regards normal flight operations.

Cheers :)
In Ron's defense he was going to be the factory rep flying the factory show case. Showing the capability of the craft does require some "hot dogging" and practicing that is what he should have been doing.

CCC=Crowds, Cameras, Competition.

Better to touch the trim tab than the rotor tab

I wonder if Ron got paid for that demo?? He did a heck of a job showing the stability of the dominator!! I was very impressed and I own one!!!

I heard someone wrecked some blades, anyone else know about that ?

Ron did an awesome job showing slow flight landings in practically everything he flew. As soon as I sort through all the video I'll post some Gyronimo footage.

Tim, did the motorhome clear out? Get rid of the bad gas?

Nope, might be something other than bad gas. Checked the oil and antifreeze. Engine temp was OK and no engine warning lights so I pressed on. I'll get it checked out before next year.

Did you buy gas at the Wal Mart in town...
BTW, I really got a kick out of FINALLY meeting u !!!! jeezz, it took long enough!

Harry you must just be cranky since your car broke down and you didn't get to come.... That is what I think of your " no merit " comment.

Many people have tore up the servo tab on their Dominators just getting them off the trailer, and many more on a botched landing. Locating the tailwheel a little lower through use of a set of small cheek plates eliminates that possiblity all together. Ernie likes the simple way of just bolting it to the inside of the keel and likes the additional rockback angle that allows, but I think the cons outweight the pros...

I was asked to demo the gyro for a prospective buyer who was interested in very slow flight, shortest possible takeoffs, and short landings from slow flight, so that is what I did. I dinged the tail doing what would have been just fine in the Dominators I have owned in the past, it was a mistake and I helped fix it when I was done with the flight. Stuff happens....

Greg, I have to say, you are a fun guy to hang around. Always in good mood and even after the " incident " you were still smiles and good times. I know if that had happened to me I would have been in a crappy mood the rest of the day....

As stated in another thead...

Please send some of your B-Days photos into the PRA for use in the magazine and the web page!

.

Thanks Ron. You were right, the good news is the mast did not get bent from the rotor strike! I had a chance to check it last night. I wonder where I can find a place to magnaflux aluminum?

NDT Aluminum

NDT Aluminum

Magnaflux only works on ferrous metals. You can buy a dye penetrant kit, probably from Aircraft Spruce, for crack detection in most materials.

Here are a couple of more Bensen Days shots that have been trimmed but left at large size. The original photos were shot in high resolution, size running ~3M but I’ve reduced resolution to ~50K to fit the forum. (After opening the photo, click the left mouse button for a blowup)

Chuck, the last foto, of your machine, is almost perfect for "Who needs a stinkin' rotor" comment.

You take some pretty good fotos for an old fart.

Cheers :)

Oh, Okay...I was mistakin', I thought he was flyin' someone else' machine. But even at that, if he's flyin for Ernie; Ernie's the boss I would think, and what the boss says, is usually the last word...unless one can convince the boss to change his mind?!

Cheers :)

Thanks, Harry. Photography is an art and I’m no artist but do understand a smattering of the mechanics.

This was my first venture into digital photography.

Blowups shot from some distance away require a long lens and a fast shutter to avoid blur.

For a first effort the pictures look great Chuck.

Also you won't have to worry about the cylinders rusting on your gyro as long as Kosaka's araound!
