I saw nothing wrong with the Bell type bubble...great all around visibility. ;)

Try to make sumin' look sexy and screw it up...practicality and vis wise. :(

Cheers :)

Harry,
Someone once told me they were buying surplus bubbles from Bell. They may have had to come up with their own design because of availability. I know Bell made them stop using the name Baby Bell.

That looks like something from a bad movie. I liked the bubble better too.

I still like the Commuter IIB cab

I still like the Commuter IIB cab

This is the Commuter IIB ,the safari evolved from this helicopter.and the Commuters are still supported by CHR. this pic is from thier web site, where they tell the history of the company. the Commuter IIB had a crus of 90 and a max speed of 100. payload of 600 lbs.

Always have wanted one of these. who knows maybe someday I will find one I can afford. I did buy the DVD of the Commuter II B from vortech.and it really is a nice helicopter.

The yellow and black one is the one demoed in the Vortechs DVD.

Bell bubble canopies are available from at least a couple of US companies who manufactured different aircraft canopies. CHRI ordered them from one of these companies, not from Bell.

As for this black cabin photo - I recall I saw it already 7-8 years ago. It was likely built by an individual when CHRI sold plans for BabyBelle for homebuilders.

Alex,
Thanks for the correction. As I stated that was just something I heard.

Thanks Mike and Alex...but I must be a diehard and set in preconceived likes and dislikes, if you will.

I was spoiled by the allround visibility of my/the Bensens. Just can't better the open frame gyros for the vis.

I became acceptable with the vis of the RAF. I've not sat in a SH to check the vis...I have sat in the Xenon and checked on the vis and I believe I could live with the vis in both of 'em.

I have not sat in the new SC2 but just looking at the photos...a nice lookin' aircraft...I have to say I would not have one. Why?? Well, this is just an old farts opinion but...why have the seats so far back and the MIP so big and situated so high that the forward/down vis is the same as you would have in a C172?!

Like I said, I'm set in my likes and I like allround vis that one gets from the seat in a Bell 47 or a Hughes 269 helo, or the seat in an open frame gyro.

It seems as if the new Gyro designs are intended for long cross country IFR flying and forsaking the low and slow fun flying of old.

IMO, the Safari has gone the same route. Just my opinion.

Cheers :)

I agree Harry. This new cabin design looks like a poor attempt to copy the angular lines of a stealth fighter. It just doesn't look right on a helicopter.

Actually I'm having second thoughts ... I still don't like the design of the new cabin but after looking at it again I thought it might look better if the tailboom was also covered with the same angular panels. It would have a futuristic look to it . Probably would'nt hover in a crosswind with so much tail surface though.
I know there are some people on this forum who could who are good at altering photos .... give it a try so we can see how it would look...

I don't think a safari is going to fly very well around Colorado Springs especially in the summer. Definitely would need a turbo.
