RE: your plans for your type of gyro, you specified 2 1/2" X 1/8" wall 2024 tubing for the mast to absorb vibrations from the rotor.

I'm ready to purchase the tubing and have found:

Calling a local metals supply, was told that it would have to be special ordered from either L.A. or from the midwest and that shipping would run as much as the tubing!

A/C Spruce & Specialty only carries 2" 2024 tubing that is too thin (about .065") and Online Metals in Seattle has 2" X .125" 2024, but no 2 1/2"...

Would O.M.'s 2" work well enough (strength) for a gyro mast (and would mate up easily to a 2" square keel), or is that extra 1/2" needed to tame the oscillations?

Tried to PM you but you have specified NOT through the forum's system...

Look for 3” dia. x .065 6061-T6 tube, Kevin. It is readily available.

The tail boom is a bit too flexible and I had to route the rudder cables along the tube center at the junction of tail boom to engine brace; otherwise, there was an unstable coupling between tube flex and rudder deflection.

The mast is too stiff with all the triangulation to use anything but a “slider” rotorhead. Otherwise, it will rattle your eyeballs.

Yes, that’s the one, Mike. I no longer have drawings, I gave all my sketches to Larry Goodhind who had them posted on his website for several years.

Yeah, Mike, it’s been flying since Bensen Days.

It’s had a couple of engine stoppages for reasons that aren’t clear to me. Bought a new fuel pump but haven’t flown it yet.

Good deal. I hope you have it at B-Days.

I was going to take a bunch of pictures of it, but before I got a chance, Kosaka had it loaded up and was headed out.
