And you were worried about just gators in Florida!

The fellow in the pictures is Larry Earley. He lives about 30 miles from Orlando, in the very rural community of Okahumpka, just off the Florida turnpike in Lake County, Florida. He has 20 acres of land and on it, a few cows and horses. Mostly it's pasture land that is fenced with woods surrounding him. He is neighbored by a larger cattle ranch.

His neighbor has complained for several years that wild hogs had been raiding his cattle feeders and salt licks.

Last month he saw what he thought was a cow in his pond and went to see if it was stuck in the mud and would have to be pulled out. When he got close enough to realize it was a hog, the thing made a charge at him. He had driven his truck down to the pond and carries a pistol in it (as any Florida redneck would, and I say that with genuine affection). He got his handgun and when it came at him again, he shot it twice and killed it.

Wild hogs in Florida usually run from 100-400 pounds with a 400 pounder being a monster. Because this one had been feasting on grain for several years it had grown to mammoth size. When Larry took it to the processor it weighed in at over 1100 pounds! The meat has no wild taste, as it was grain fed; and Larry is quite the hero. He has fed many fireman and provided the homeless shelter in downtown Orlando with a couple of meals. You were worried about just gators in Florida!

Gawd, that things huge.

That's a bunch of tamales!

Rando,

Someones telling you a story, it didn't happen last month.

That hog was shot about twelve years ago.

The rest of the story is just about true.

One thing I can absolutly vouch for was the pictures were out two years ago in a newpaper type hunters magazine.

The guy was then trying to clear the air about the pictures because someone in Texas was trying to pass the pictures as their own and saying they shot it.

The guy stated in the article that the hog there was shot ten years prior.

The hog had been eating out of cattle feeders for sure but it didn't bother the cattle for it would routinely be seen with them.

He said he donated the hog to a local shelter for the poor.

Since the hog had been eating grain for some time the hog tasted wonderfull.

Have you ever seen those big black and white hogs that are tame.

One afternoon my wife and I were riding in the country.

We were crossing over this wooden bridge over a canal.

These two huge hogs were walking up the bank and when they got up on the road they were absolutly huge.

We were in a 1983 Ford mustang and any one of these two hogs was as long as my car and their backs were about even with the middle of my window.

I was frightened as hell but amazed also at how tame they were.

We found the farmer that owned them and had a look at his other hogs.

Heck he had a bunch of them but the others weren't as large.

His two hogs were larger than this guy here had shot for sure.

I'm going to go back and see if he still has some of these hogs and take some pictures for you!

I tell folks this story all the time and not many people believe me.

Been kicking myself for years for not going home and getting my camera.

Screw-In

That's a bit larger than the standard issue FL handgun too :D

Rusty (feeling inadequate)

That appears to be Smith & Wesson 686 (357) 6" or 629 (44mag) 6 1/2' with some kind of "Red Dot" site system. Perfectly OK for South Florida Rednecks with money. Poor Florida Rednecks use Ruger.:D

Screw,

So if were to like Rugers I'd be a redneck?

Ruger GP100 is my favorite but I bought a Ruger P90 this month.

For rifle I like the 10/22.

But I'm fixin to graduate up to Smith & Wesson soon when I get my Model 500 8 1/2 inch barrel stainless revolver.

Red neck - YeeHaw, YeeHaw.

I'm nuthin but a red neck and I like what I'm a doin! Lol!!!!!

Mark, I don't doubt you. I've seen some big pigs. Especially the red ones, (Yorkshires?) that commonly go over half a ton at slaughter. I had an aunt that worked at a small slaughter house.
I'm glad our wild pigs, javalinas, only average 50 lbs, but that doesn't mean they aren't ferocious fighter. They can have a bad attitude.

Imagine you landing your gyro and a beast like that charging at you?
Kevin:
Don't worry, they don't shoot blue blooded HOgs! :D
Gun guys:
Check Taurus, they have a great collection and are working with S&W, the little pistol is a gem.
thanks
