Buyer Beware !

The way I understand it is that Air Command has gotten Subaru friendly now.

So they basically decided to copy the RAF motor mount & they use thier redrive also.

Personally, I would use the Autoflight gearbox.

So, I guess they did not do a good copy or the builder did something wrong.

So lets fix the goof up & get her in the air.

As far as the cheekplates go....you never know what your gonna get till she's done & hung up. I got to do mine a couple of times.

I think the Air Command tandem is a nice ship & $25000 ain't bad when you consider the 40K for a SH !

Check out all of my custom work under the Air Command thread ! I only purchased the airframe from AC.... the rest was up to me.

As far as the nosewheel & steering goes ....I totally rebuilt ( improved ) mine.

Patience is a virtue Chris

You took your time and money and made it work for you. Some of us don't have that kind of dedication or patience.

Good Show Guy

Thom

P.S. I had a minpin last year. He started to chase cars. Then he caught one by the wheel. I now have a Chihuahua.

Gyros, like airplanes have manufacturers who sometimes stretch their personal limits and resort to providing less than complete or poor quality parts IE: BD-5. If your not satisfied, tell the manufacturer and ask him/her to fix the problem. If you get no satisfaction, let them know you are going to enter your comments on this or another forum. The aviation community is small and the word gets out on scammers and providers of junk like a wild fire. If they threaten to Sue, keep in mind that if they had money to sue, they would probably be sending out good parts. If you received nothing, contact the DA's office in your area, the Postal inspector if it arrived by mail and dispute/cancel your credit card purchase. With the protection credit cards offer, try and use them for all purchases that you wish to have additional protection. If all fails and you get taken, watch CSI so you can avoid capture ha ha

Unfortionately that is not alwayse true. it SHOULD be true all the time but its not, you get a High priced Lawyer ad get them to bend the truth for you and you can get away with anything, "its the Americian way !"
Liable and slander is nothing but gravy to a lawyer, they said, you said ,he said... is all a silly game ... and the lawyers are the only ones that profet from it.
Remember where you live.... this is the USA. there is no real freedom here ! everyone is controling someone else just because they can ! ... being right or wrong has nothing to do with it any more, we left that line of thinking in Americia in the 1950's

ahem.... sorry for being so pesimistic ! <grin>
....
anyone can take anybody to court for anything....you just have to be dishonnest ! ....and that never stopped any self respecting lawyer ! <GRIN>
Being truthfull without proof is useless, and you better have it documented by 3 diferent sources ! or they throw it out of court as "inadmissable evidence"... then where are you ?
left standing there holding your Morels ? while the buzzards curcle and jackels come in for the kill and you wind up paying through the nose ! because... RIGHT doesn't alwayse win !
infact, Right is usually on the looseing side unless Right is very very carefull !!!!!
...
my 2 coppers !
Bob.......

Well in Air Command's defense I think we need to give them
time to fix the problem before telling people to jump ship.
I personally have had a problem with a part failing and it
hit my prop three smallchips in the gelcoat, one phone call
later my parts were on their way along with 3 new blades
free of charges not even shipping!!!
Let's Give Them A Chance!!!

the diference here is more than likely a Known problem and a "what do we do about this one Boss " type thing....
Jamie , yours being a known problem, why they didn't tell you about the problem before the failure is unknown and not good to say the least.... it could have easily killed you.
the other problem being one someone higher up is going to have to make a desigon on, and we all know how slow that goes.
.... personally I have hurd enough to make me think twice about having anything at all to do with Aircommand, just because of their policy of not comunicateing with their buyers of possable failure in some parts.
even if I was sudenly "IN the Money" i'ed hesitate about that.
....
but that is just my opinion.

I agree Jamie.

The current AC owners have been in the fore front with changes to safer geometry kits and up grades for the previous owners bad geometry kits.

Nice to hear

every business in the world have some bad parts. Most try to catch it before it reaches the public with some type of QC. At least they stand behind their sale. That means they are trying. Great, and you have had a good conclusion.

Thom

We are not talking about replacing bad parts. We are talking about making an unsuspecting customer a test pilot for poor and, apparently, untested engineering.

Air Command has, in the past, had a good reputation for "making good" on customer problems and replacing parts. This is something completely different.

Internet anyone ?

Internet anyone ?

I appreciate airing dirty laundry here as bad news travels half way around the world before good news gets its pants on, something like that.

I have a few questions.

1. Way back in 1998 I used the internet to search gyros. WWW has been around since, eh, 1996 ? Come on....
I found the PRA, the Rotorcraft forum and was up and running gyro crazy flying my keyboard in no time I devoured all sorts of information, bought all kinds of books and learned all I could. I got bensen plans the teach yourself to be a test pilot program with the bensen stuff. I learned a lot even though it would be 3 years before I sat in a gyro to train. I knew all about the all important hang test, had my sand bags all ready...

2. Every gyro, every kit comes with instructions on how to do a hang test and I can guess a weight and balance too.

Why was this step not done first ! ?

How did this "builder" pass his faa inspection without putting some kind of data down ? If not w & b then degrees with weight ?

Its a pain but you have to know where you are and how much given a weight vs angle of dangle...

3. Why was this gyro not tied down and a slow power up and shut down done to prevent the damage to the mast. I encountered excessive engine flex on the soft mounts I had installed on my hi po package. Am I the only guy to do this and look and see what is going on before it hits the runway ? I emplore EVERY potential PILOT and BUILDER here to TIE THE B--- down and run it up, run it up for a good long time to make sure things are 1, going to keep running, 2, nothing comes loose 3, Properly break in all components and not wonder what "that noise" is at 300' Many, no too many have had serious situations arise and some have lost entire craft because they skipped this part. You cannot be impatient and just go down the runway for your break in procedures.... I am a very good mechanic. I have been surprised s--t less to know the last thing you expect to get you will. Find it on the ground not in the air.

4. I am not standing up for bad professional mistakes but a whole bunch of people got cooked in lexington because bubba took off on the wrong runway, no make that at least 3 bubbas. Brain farts happen, and can sneek up on the very best of us. Check, double check , and for the warm fuzzy tripple check. Then all is good. sometimes.........

People with too much money, no patience and no education, or willingness to go to the library and get educated are the greatest threat to themselves and to our sport. God bless, I will get off my soap box. Glad everything worked out the long way around.....

Jonathan

"....no make that at least 3 bubbas."

Let's keep it at 2 Bubbas. The tower cab operator has no legal obligation to make sure the correct runway is being used. If 2 experienced jet-jockeys can't look at their compass or DG or GPS when they start rolling down the runway, that's sad. The buck stops right there in that cabin. I've never seen a jet or hardly any other plane take off on a runway that didn't have a gigantic runway number painted on it in bright white paint. What the hell WERE they looking at? Their taxi and/or landing lights should have lit up the numbers like the proverbial Christmas tree.
