[email protected]Can anyone tell me if plans for the Mc Cullock J2 are still in existance.
And if so can they be obtained and from where.
To my mind it is a great looking machine and it would be a cring shame for it to disapear eventualy.
Unlike some, my budget is anarexic to say the least, but I would love to be able to build one of these fantastic machines.
So if any one out there can help please contact me

The J-2 was a factory built, was never a plans or kit built.

I understand that the J2 was factory built, but with McCulloch no longer in operation I thought it possible that the actual blue prints for the J2 may have found there way into the public sector,

I don't think the average person could machine the parts, the main rotorhead is almost the same if not the same as the Hughe 269-A I had one and it is really a strong built machine.

Aero Resources became the owner after McCulloch, but they never built another one. I think there were about 10 unsold ones and they converted them to the "Super" model, which merely added a constant-speed prop and a muffler and then went out of business. I couldn't find a trace of them on an Internet search.

I have a brand new McCulloch rotorhead, 3 rotor-blades and a transmission to start you off. Don't know if you could get much further than that though, unless you found a junker somewhere at a giveaway price.

I totaly agree with you,
I would not suggest for a second that a project like this be undertaken lightly.
But mechanical engineering is my game.
I hold a BSME and am not looking to build the J2 over night but possibly over a couple of years.
For me the real joy is in the actual building and problem solving.
The finnished item is an added bonus.
So if you know of any leads I would be eternaly greatful.

Do you know where Aero Resources had their base,
and if any one hears of a J2 junker I would be greatful for the info.
Ken would it be possible to have some pics of your girl, see looks an absolute butie.
And I would like to add them to my ever growing J2 project file.

I don't know where you'd get prints or drawings from. Don't know of any junkers specifically, but have heard stories of them being around. Don't forget, only about 90 were built, a good number were wrecked or butchered up, and many went overseas. I know of one from Arkansas that is now in China and I have a photo of one in Australia and there was one in Bahrain. Don't know if it's still there. Maybe put a "wanted" ad on Barnstormers or in Trade-A-Plane. TAP has a Rotary Wing listing and you might try a "wanted" ad there.

Aero resources was in Segundo, which is near Long Beach, CA. I posted just about all the pics in the first post.

Keith Cross in Woodland, Ca purchased all the company assets. He sold off most of the parts for scrap prices and has few parts left. He had stock certificates and drawings at one time. He was stricken with MS and is the final stages. I spoke with him last, a year ago and I'm uncertain of his current status. He is still one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He has a restored Beech 18 that is of Oshkosh winner quality and a Mooney he restored years ago.

That's too bad. I thought that maybe someone could downsize the J-2 a little and use a Soob 2.2 or 2.5 and a simpler rotor system with a 2-bladed teetering system. Would make a nice kit if someone had the bucks to get something like that started.

the one I had ending up in tenn.and some guy converted it to a helicopter,don't now if it ever flew.

somewhere I even have an old I think air progress magize that had a story on the J-2 maybe I will go out to the shop and look for it today.

I can,nt thank you all enough Kens idea about down sizing the J2 appeals to me a lot mybe I can do some work along those lines.
J4 flyer you would not happen to have some contact information for Keith Cross would you, I may be able to gain some info along those lines.

A gentleman in our club shrunk a J-2 to a single seat gyro, took off the rotor system wings and the tail booms.

It now has a Cessna style gear, 2 blade teetering rotor Windryder boom and tail, and he was playing with turbine power, last I heard.

The gyro weighs about half of what it used to.
