Owned Magni M16 now ELA 07
Total Flight Time
550FW + 500 gyro
I took a friend from work (a Texan) flying in my gyro and he took his camera.
We came upon this object on the edge of the trees.
This is the first photo he took can anyone guess what it is?

clue number 1 "it is linked to aviation"
clue number 2 "it is in Normandy in France".

I've made it a link to keep as much detail as possible so that you can zoom as much as you like.

If nobody can guess I'll give you another photo taken a bit nearer.

The winner gets a flight with me to see this in real life, you have to get to Normandy yourself.

Can see there is a grave marker, but difficult to try and work out what is in the woods behind. Maybe just a footpath.
Having been to Normandy it could just as easily be part of a trench complex.

Looks like 2 info markers, one smaller than the other. Could it possibly be a crash site? The area and objects look indented into the trees. Stuff looks rusty, but several rectangular pieces. May be an alignment of gravestones. Wasn't Lindbergh buried somewhere outside the U.S.?

I think I can see some trucks and some cannons. Maybe this was a German anti-aircraft battery?

Well done Udi and kingchocolate you're getting close, but what's the link with aviation (it's not anti aircraft)??

I'll post the next photo tomorrow.

Nice try Zack but this is not in the part of Normandy where the D day landings took place and all those gliders landed, this is further east over the river Seine.
I'll try to fly over the D day beaches for you soon and post some pics.

???How do I Zoom in on your pic???

Cheers :)

Looks like corn, too tall for soybeans.
:D :D :D :D :D :D

If you wonder how that would be aviation related look up Ron Awad's old post about taking off and dragging his landing gear in the soy bean field.

My son was studying in England and then over to France 2 weeks ago with the Ambassador Program. A highlight for him was visiting Normandy where he brought back a memorial "clicker" and some sand for his old man...... I guess compared to him I am.... He is 12 years old.

Must be something to fly over and around all these historic places !

For the zoom I'm not sure, computers are a mystery to me.
I think you have to save the image on your computer and then open it with some sort of editing software like photoshop, that's how it works on mine but there are plenty of very smart computer people on the forum who can probably guide you better.

I'll post a new picture tonight, you should be able to see better what it is.

Is it a runway where they would hide the planes in the woods? I know they did that a lot in Germany but I do not know if they did it in Normandy.

It is what remains of a Rocket launcher. You can see almost the storage area and the rock where the trough was placed. Ha. Or maybe this was a wall so it could not be hit by bombs. But any way it is a rocket launcher.

Thom

It's a U.F.O. site and I didnt see anything!

OK Thom well done you're nearly there, what sort of rocket?
